However, we will monitor our 2013 Pinchin Environmental Ltd. 1

4 practices for reduction opportunities and will continue to use these substances in compliance with all Federal and Provincial regulations. 3.0 OBJECTIVES OF THE PLAN & ANY TARGETS J&T is conducting further research to identify new options, or undertaking activities that will reduce our use of ethyl acetate, ethyl alcohol, and heptane. The objective of this plan is to determine the technical and economic feasibility of any identified option to determine which, if any, are viable for implementation at this time. 4.0 DESCRIPTION OF WHY THE TOXIC SUBSTANCE IS USED OR CREATED 4.1 Ethyl Acetate Ethyl acetate is a constituent in adhesives as a carrier fluid. It presents in various amounts in coater-ready commercial wet adhesives. During Egan coating, the wet adhesives are applied on a moving web and dried through a dryer. Ethyl acetate is thus released as onsite air emission. 4.2 Ethyl Alcohol Ethyl alcohol is a constituent in adhesives as a carrier fluid. It presents in various amounts in coater-ready commercial wet adhesives. During Egan coating, the wet adhesives are applied on a moving web and dried through a dryer. Ethyl alcohol is thus released as onsite air emission. 4.3 Heptane Heptane is used as one of the major carrier solvents in adhesive mixing process to produce wet adhesives for subsequent Egan adhesive coating. During Egan coating, the wet adhesives are applied on a moving web and dried through a dryer. Heptane is thus released as onsite air emission. 5.0 OPTIONS TO BE IMPLEMENTED (OR STATEMENT THAT NONE ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED) No option can be identified to be implemented under any of the seven categories abovementioned. Rationale: The water-base adhesive technology is of low productivity as well as poor product performance. Although options may not be available at this particular time, it may become available in the future. The company will monitor the progress of emerging technologies/processes, safer alternatives, or alternate materials Pinchin Environmental Ltd. 2
