2 Researcher produces hybrid solar dryer A hybrid solar dryer was built using fluid cycle technique at University of Tehran for the first time in Iran. Hadi Samimi, PhD student of Mechanics of Agricultural Machinery at Aburaihan campus, managed to design and produce hybrid solar dryer taking advantage of fluid cycle method. The device will be able to alleviate a portion of difficulties faced in the processing of agricultural products. 1 Iran opens first zero-energy building in MERC The first zero-energy building (green building) in Iran was inaugurated in Materials and Energy Research Center in Fardis, Alborz province. The building is the third in its kind in the world and the first in Iran. The architecture and elements such as air traps, green house, and solar energy used in the construction of the building, have resulted in reduction of energy consumption to the lowest level. 2 Iranian researchers use gold nanoparticles to detect cancer Iranian researchers at Faculty of New Sciences and Technologies, UT, have conducted a project on detecting cancer cells by using colorimetric method on laboratory samples. This method makes possible early detection of cancer cells among normal cells. The results of the research have been published in Analytica Chimica Acta, vol. 904, 2016, pp Registration of automatic cardiac massage Automatic machine with the ability to revive heart massage heart - lung (ventilator), radiolucent and intelligent which has been invented by Davood Momen Bahadur, a medical Maraghaeian student was nationally registered. The machine with the aim to restore and treat patients with cardiac arrest has been designed and built with special features such as the ability to pass any kind of rays, practice of intubated, non-intubated and women with gestation of 20 weeks, is the first device of its kind in the world. 4 Iran ends monopoly on production of "ultracentrifugation" Scientists from Razi Institute have designed and manufactured high speed centrifugation (ultracentrifugation) and ended American and Japanese monopoly in producing the device

3 This type of centrifuges used in the production of vaccines and drugs, and has applications in the areas of veterinary medicine, biotechnology and molecular biology too. Industrial production of ultracentrifugation in Iran is expected to begin soon. 5 Production of amazing Biological material by algae Royan Institute researchers and Iran Polymer and Petrochemical Institute in collaboration with American MIT and Plymt of Spain have managed to build an amazing Biological material by algae. The Biological material can restore damages in the heart and blood arteries, and used in tendons, joints and skin recoveries. The achievement that has captured the world's attention in scientific communities has made a revolution in the field of tissue prosthesis. 6 Increasing efficiency of plants using nanoparticles Researchers from Shiraz University in laboratory design managed to increase the productivity of plants by using silicon oxide nanoparticles. The nanoparticles can reduce the negative effects of heavy metals such as cadmium in photochemical processes that are used in agriculture and pastures. The results of the research have been published in the Journal of Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences (Vol. 7, 2015, pages 25 to 39). 7 Iran s advances in genetics in past year Significant advances were made in genetics in the past Iranian year (ended March 20) including the authorization of two genetics drugs for marketing and the unveiling of Bt cotton (genetically modified organism cotton variety). Iran has made rapid advancements in biotechnology in the past two decades. Pharmaceutical biotechnology has advanced to a degree that the country is exporting biotech medicinal drugs abroad including Europe, and there have been contracts for technology transfer to other countries. 8 Iranian scientists enlisted in world top one percent researchers According to the Information Sciences Institute (ISI) 199 Iranian scientists have been enlisted in the world top one percent scientists. 107 of whom belong to comprehensive

4 universities and 48 to poly technique ones. Moreover 30 are from medical science universities and 8 from research centers. The ISI criterion is based on the number of citations of researchers works over last 10 years in 22 fields of study. 9 30k biological samples so far stored in Iran s biobank Nearly 30,000 biological samples from plants, microorganisms, humans, animal, and molecules have so far been stored in the country s biobank in the form of 27 collections. These samples will be made available to researchers and those active in the biotech industry under specific and documented regulations. The center is in contact with a number of countries across the world including Spain, the Netherlands, Egypt, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Tunisia, Algeria, etc. 10 Iranian Engineers Build Glycol Pumps Engineers of Iran at the South Pars Gas Complex can now make glycol pumps from scratch. The domestic development of the glycol pump can now meet the country's growing need for the equipment in refineries. The project to produce the hardworking pump included preliminary studies, mapping, designing, assembling, testing, quality control, and documentation. 11 Researchers use sunlight to expedite water treatment process Iranian researchers used a light-sensitive nanocomposite in water treatment that is able to use sunlight to expedite the process of removal and elimination of organic pollutants significantly. The nanocomposite can also be used in production of self-cleaning and antimicrobial coatings. The product is being mass-produced at knowledge-based Rizfanavaran Green Chemistry company located in Arak University. 12 Iran makes recombinant factor VIII drug Iran has produced recombinant factor VIII drug, hopes to mass produce the medicine in the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 20, The product was

5 processed in reactor through biotechnology and biotechnology engineering. The country would save at least $60 million currency in case it could mass produce the drug. 13 Cheap and immediate detection of cancer cells Scientists from Tehran University using immediate properties of gold nanoparticles have presented a method for early detection of cancer cells among healthy cells. In this method, as one of advantages, there is no need for expensive equipments and skilled experts for the diagnosis. 14 Light-sensitive nano-composite helps acceleration water purification Researchers from Mohaghegh Ardebili University have synthesized light-sensitive nanocomposite which is able to help increase the speed of industrial wastewater purification process. These nanomaterials can be used in purification effluents of industries which are active in the field of paints and pesticides and can be used for purification of drinking water too. 15 Sulfur reduction in gasoline by a nanocatalyst Scientists from Zanjan University have produced crude oil desulfurization catalyst which addition to accelerate the process reduces sulfur and other pollutants in gasoline by 98 percent.
