2 NRSII Transwab Neutraises trace disinfectant NRS II Transwab is MWE s name for its range of swab based environmenta samping devices for the food, pharmaceutica, biotechnoogy and cosmetic industries. A NRS II Transwab devices feature MWE s eak proof abeed sef standing screw-cap tube made from shatterproof poypropyene, with a high visibiity bue shaft swab attached to the cap. The swab features a rayon bud that can remain immersed in iquid, yet retains MWE s high standard for absorption, surviva and reease of microorganisms. The tubes are prefied with the specified voume of soution and there is a choice of NRS, MWE s cassic neutraising rinse soution, and a range of aternative buffers and media appropriate for particuar appications. The formuation conforms to ISO and wi neutraise most disinfectants used in the food industry, incuding those based on chorine, peroxygen compounds, amphoterics, biguanides, and gutaradehyde. This is a universa neutraising soution suitabe for testing most disinfected areas within the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutica industries. Buffered Peptone Water Buffered Peptone Water contains peptone and sodium choride, with a phosphate buffer, and is used for the recovery of Samonea, especiay in environments where they may have been sub-ethay injured. Butterfied Buffer Butterfied Buffer (aso caed Butterfied s Soution or Butterfied s phosphate buffered diution water) contains potassium phosphate as specified by APHA and FDA, and is used in standard methods for the enumeration of bacteria and fungi in foods, water and pharmaceutica products. The standard formuation has been modified by the incusion of a ow eve of peptone to reduce osmotic shock, and poysorbate 80 as a surfactant to assist the samping process. Letheen Broth Letheen media are used to determine the bactericida efficacy of quaternary ammonium based disinfectants. 3 Letheen broth is a growth medium recommended by the FDA for use in the microbioogica testing of cosmetics, and the formuation is as described in the FDA Bacterioogica Anaytica Manua. Poysorbate 80 and ecithin are incuded to partiay neutraise the preservatives commony found in cosmetics. MRD (Maximum Recovery Diuent) Aso caed Peptone Saine. Maximum Recovery Diuent is an isotonic and protective medium for maximum recovery of microorganisms from environmenta and food sources. It is aso the recommended diuent for the samping of carcasses in the European Union. Choice of fi NRS medium and variants are avaiabe in a choice of 3 fi sizes 10m and 5m are used with standard and fitration methods. 1m can be used directy with Petrifim, and other direct pour pating techniques Tryptic Soy Broth Tryptic Soy Broth is a genera purpose recovery medium with exceent growth properties for aerobes, anaerobes, and some fungi. It is widey used for steriity testing, particuary in pharmaceutica manufacturing. NRS without Sodium Thiosuphate Some testing methods (such as Petrifim ) require medium without thiosuphate.

4 Poywipes TM Premoistened sponge swabs for samping arge areas Using sterie goves, which can be suppied, the sponge is used to sampe the surface being tested. Any traces of disinfectant are quicky neutraised, either by simpe diution, or by direct interaction with the neutraising components of the iquid. After use and transportation, they are readiy processed in the aboratory by any of a number of standard techniques. Poywipes have been the subject of many studies, incuding recovery performance with Samonea, Listeria, MRSA, Acinetobacter, and Costridium difficie. New Poywipes are sterie premoistened bue sponge swabs, ready to use and highy effective for the samping and microbioogica assessment of a wide variety of surfaces. Poywipes are manufactured from a specia sponge materia containing no inhibitory substances, so that maximum recovery and detection of microorganisms is assured. The sponge format is convenient for samping arger fat or irreguar surfaces, such as conveyor bets and machine parts, as we as foors, was, drains and ceiings. Poywipes are premoistened with phosphate buffer, or any of a seection of other buffers, and individuay seaed in a easy-to-open tamper evident pee pouch. The bright bue coour ensures they cannot be easiy ost in critica areas, whie the structure within the sponge prevents shedding of fragments due to abrasion. Range of premoistening buffers. 5 Wide range of appications throughout food and pharmaceutica manufacturing and processing Food & Pharmaceutica Manufacturing Sponge swabs are especiay recommended for the samping of arger areas for the detection of controed pathogens such as Listeria, Samonea and coiforms. They are very usefu for samping irreguar surfaces such as drains and machine casings, and aso for arger areas such as conveyor bets and preparation benches. Poywipes with standard phosphate buffer has been widey used for many years, and is the most suitabe formuation for most appications. There are some situations, whether specified by reguations, or the requirements of particuar retaiers, where aternative wetting soutions are required. To meet these requirements, Poywipes are now aso avaiabe with Neutraising Rinse Soution (NRS ), Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) or Letheen Broth. NRS is a peptone soution containing the neutraisers sodium thiosuphate, poysorbate 80, and ecithin, and is often specified for standard swab samping. Buffered Peptone Water is recommended where Samonea is a particuar target on food contact surfaces. Letheen Broth is a growth medium which aso contains the neutraisers ecithin and poysorbate 80, and is recommended by the FDA for environmenta testing for the cosmetic industry. Peptone Saine (aso caed Maximum Recovery Diuent MRD) is avaiabe as the wetting soution with Poywipes Carcass Swabs (see beow). Carcass swabs European and internationa standards (incuding (EC) No. 2073/2005) require the reguar samping of the carcasses of catte, sheep, pigs, goats and horses using sponge swabs. Poywipes Carcass Swabs are premoistened with Peptone Saine speciay formuated (ISO & ISO 6887) to compy with these reguations. They can be suppied compete with goves, reseaabe bags, and preprinted abe for recording required detais such as Farm, Species, Length and Reference Number.

6 SteriKit TM For sterie manufacturing areas SteriKit is a swab based system for the detection of microbia contamination in sterie production faciities. Sampes are coected using Steriswab premoistened swabs, and inserted into the SteriKit tubes containing an enriched semi-soid medium with coour change growth indicator. Upon incubation any bacteria wi grow and cause the coour of the medium to change from purpe to yeow within 48 hours. The time taken wi depend on the number of organisms, but in the event of any coour deveopment, the swab and medium can be used for further investigation by conventiona or moecuar microbioogica techniques. Steriswabs have a rayon bud on a bue pastic shaft, and are premoistened with a sterie phosphate buffer. The moistened bud improves the recovery of any microorganisms from the test surface, even if present in ow numbers. The swabs have a 45mm breakpoint aowing them to be readiy transferred into other test systems. Steriswabs are tripe wrapped for sterie handing in controed premises, and are steriised by irradiation.
