2 Unlock the benefits of image analysis. Image analysis is an integrated part of Aperio s digital pathology workflow solution. If you need straightforward answers to complex questions, our family of image analysis solutions will provide the insight. Image analysis is made simple by the use of purpose-built tools. Biomarker expression is easily determined through cellular compartment-specific routines. Tissue pattern analysis is a snap through the use of pre-defined pattern recognition workflows. Customized image analysis protocols can be created to address the needs of your basic and translational research. And, our software development kit (SDK) provides the ability to create customized approaches to fit your research requirements.

3 Image analysis tools are part of Aperio s complete digital pathology solution. Stain separation, cellular analysis, and tissue analysis tools deliver a solution for every need. Stain Separation Color Deconvolution Digital stain separation reveals the contribution and intensity of each stain present in the image, such as distinguishing membrane from cytoplasmic markers. Colocalization As an extension of color deconvolution, colocalization analysis can quantify the level of overlap and intensity between up to three different stains occupying the same location. For example, you can identify colocalized areas of CD19 and CD5 in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia cells. Cellular Analysis Nuclear Quantification allows for brightfield nuclear detection and intensity measurement of stained nuclei. This tool is designed for rapid quantification of nuclear stained biomarkers such as ER, PR, and Ki67. Cytoplasm Quantification allows for brightfield detection and intesity measurement for individual cells cytoplasm. p63 in prostate tissue is a common application for this routine. Membrane Quantification allows for brightfield membrane detection and intensity measurement for individual cellular membranes. Membrane biomarkers like HER2 and EGFR are easily detected, quantified, and reported. 4 Tissue Analysis Positive Pixel Count A simplified version of the Area Quantification tool, this tool measures percent area coverage of a specific stain. Area Quantification Measure stained and fluorescently labeled areas accurately and consistently. Up to three areas can be digitally separated and evaluated for colocalization. For example, you can evaluate the degree of fibrosis in liver tissue. Genie Pattern Recognition Feature and histology pattern recognition across an entire tissue section. Automate pattern recognition for cell or tissue types, or any user-defined region of interest. For example, identification of epithelial compartments or substructure within complex tissues. Microvessels This tool enables automated detection of vessels, vessel walls, and lumen thickness. Additional measurements are available for vascular area coverage. Angiogenesis measurements are now easy and repeatable. Rare Event Detection Simplify the search for micrometastasis of tumor cells in blood through a unique pattern and color identification routine.
