Rationale For Recommendation: MetaMetrics training program assists with meeting the goals outlined in RttT for the fiscal year. The Lexile Framework for Reading measures the difficulty of text in Lexiles and also measures student reading ability in Lexiles. The computer algorithms that produce Lexile measures both for text and for students are proprietary to MetaMetrics, Inc. and are available only from MetaMetrics, Inc. Whereas, New Hanover County School system, desires to purchase with RttT funds, Lexile and Quantile Workshops through MetaMetrics, Inc. Whereas, the MetaMetrics, Inc. will provide 2 days of staff development and provide 2 facilitators for each date of training. Whereas, North Carolina General Statutes (e)(6) authorizes local governments to purchase from a sole source when a needed product is available from only one source of supply, and Whereas, MetaMetrics, Inc. is the sole source for the Lexile and Quantile Workshops. The scientific measures of academic achievement and complementary technologies link assessment results with realworld instruction and are currently reported with our End-of-Grade and End-of-Course tests. The measurement tool for reading and mathematics provides unique insights into academic ability and the potential for growth. It is closely aligned with the Common Core and North Carolina Essential Standards. School-based instructional coaches and leaders will be trained in the measures, the online tool and in differentiating instruction and personalizing learning.
