3 3 SAS GRID Assesments from d-wise What Is SAS Grid Computing? SAS Grid Computing lets you create a managed, shared environment for processing large volumes of data and analytic programs quickly, using dynamic, resource-based load balancing. You can split individual SAS jobs and run each piece in parallel across multiple symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) machines using shared physical storage. This enables IT to build and manage a lower-cost, flexible infrastructure that can scale to meet rapidly changing computing requirements. What Can SAS Grid Computing Do for You? 1. Manage jobs and users more efficiently. Central administration helps you monitor and manage multiple users and applications under a given set of constraints. IT can meet service-level demands by easily reassigning computing resources to manage peak workloads and changing business needs. 2. Avoid user or source disruptions. Multiple servers in a grid environment enable jobs to run on the best available resource. If a server fails, you can transition its jobs seamlessly to other servers providing a highly available business analytics environment. 3. Enhance IT performance. Multiprocessing capabilities let you divide individual jobs into subtasks that are run in parallel on the best-available hardware resource in a grid environment. Faster processing of data integration, reporting and analytical jobs speeds decision making across the enterprise. How Is SAS Grid Computing Different? 1. Faster, better business decision making. SAS Grid Computing combines proven, industry-leading computing middleware from Platform Computing with the power of SAS Analytics to scale business processes and accelerate decisions for greater competitive advantage. 2. More efficient big data and analytic processing. SAS solutions for data management, predictive analytics and reporting automatically submit jobs to a centrally managed grid of shared computing resources, enabling big data and complex analytics to run faster and continuously. 3. A cost-effective processing environment. Grid computing enables IT to add low-cost commodity hardware resources incrementally without disruption to the organization, which eliminates the need to size today's environment for your future needs.

4 4 SAS GRID Assesments from d-wise As life science organizations' use of business analytics grows, so does the need for a flexible IT infrastructure one that can scale cost-effectively, meet peak demands and manage growing, increasingly diverse user workloads. SAS Grid Manager delivers grid computing capabilities, enabling organizations to create a managed, shared environment for processing large volumes of data and analytic programs. Benefits of SAS GRID within Pharma 1. Meet changing business demands with dynamic workload balancing. SAS Grid Manager gives IT greater flexibility to meet service level commitments by easily reassigning computing resources to meet peak workloads or changing business demands. The solution provides a central point of control for administering policies, programs, queues and job prioritization across multiple types of users and applications to achieve business goals under a given set of constraints. 2. Create a highly available SAS grid computing environment. Having multiple servers in a grid environment enables jobs to run on the best available resource. If a server fails, its jobs can be transitioned seamlessly to another server providing high availability. In addition, IT staff can perform maintenance on specific servers without interrupting analytics jobs, as well as introduce additional computing resources without disrupting the business. 3. Get faster results from your existing IT infrastructure. Multiprocessing capabilities let you divide individual jobs into subtasks that are run in parallel on the best available hardware resource. The SAS programs best-suited for parallel processing are those with large data sets and long run times, as well as those with replicate runs of independent tasks running against large data sets. Processing data integration, reporting and analytical jobs faster accelerates decision making across the enterprise. 4. Grow computing resources incrementally and cost-effectively. SAS Grid Manager lets you fully utilize all available computing resources now, and cost-effectively scale out as needed, adding capacity in single-processing units to keep IT spending in check. Because you can add low-cost commodity hardware resources incrementally, there's no need to size today's environment for what you anticipate your needs will be a few years from now. 5. Eliminate bottlenecks within SAS Programming Environments. SAS Grid Manager allows organizations to eliminate performance bottlenecks within statistical computing environments and effectively address areas of under utilization by providing an administrative dashboard that gives you the ability to distribute workload across a grid or cluster and obtain results that otherwise may not be possible, even given today s processor speeds. 6. Manage the complications of systems integration from Mergers and Acquisitions SAS Grid Manager allows organizations to easily manage data and systems acquired during mergers and acquisitions and across contract research organizations, without affecting existing workflows.

5 SAS GRID Assesments from d-wise d-wise's SAS GRID Assessment d-wise Business and Technology Architects will partner with your IT and business stakeholders to understand your requirements and leverage our extensive domain knowledge of architecture, SAS software, and clinical and statistical programming so you will be able to maximize your investment in SAS Grid technology. Our team will take you through a defined and proven methodology that delivers all the information you'll need to present a compelling business case for moving to SAS Grid. SAS Grid computing is extremely useful where IT departments need to manage complex infrastructures consisting of a conglomeration of disparate hardware and user requirements. In Life Sciences today, this situation is often exacerbated by mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, it offers an alternative to purchasing new, larger server platforms. With SAS GRID, you'll be able to harness all the computing power of a network of servers, manage workloads, make use of existing hardware, eliminate the need to purchase new larger servers. By doing so, Life Science organizations will be able to manage risk, improve business processes and control IT costs.
