10 Upgrade 1 Upgrade N Establishing Engineering Standards & Governance Goal: To facilitate true simplification for you, we must simplify and standardize License Structure across Cisco s Product Portfolio. In Conjunction with Smart Licensing, a simplification exercise is underway across Cisco Products to create easier to use and understand bundling models. <Gold> <Silver> Rules include: Eliminate License Dependencies Apply to only a single Business Need Easy to Articulate to a User No Artificial Currencies A New License Model Governance will be in place by mid 2013 which ensures adherence to Best Practices. <Bronze> Feature Set A B C D Base Image -Or- 10

11 How Smart Licensing Works

12 Cisco Smart Software Lifecycle Management Smart Software Lifecycle Management is a major shift from placing a license compliance burden on you to helping you understand how software is used in your network. Purchasing Purchase software based on your consumption needs (prepaid, post-paid) Automatically deliver entitlements into a consolidated inventory based on a single customer identifier Management Automatically track activations against entitlements Create license pools and manage your entire software portfolio Single, consistent experience for all products Reporting Understand how you are using Cisco software Customer, authorized partner, and Cisco all know what software has been purchased & consumed Periodic reconciliation to address consumption model enables the process to continue Reconcile/Renewal/Billing 12

No additional Components needed Cisco Product HTTPs Cisco.com Your Cisco Software Usage 2 Direct Cloud Access through an HTTP Proxy Cisco Products send usage information over the internet via a Proxy Server. Any off-the-shelf Proxy will work. Your Cisco Software Usage Cisco Product HTTPs Proxy Cisco.com 3 Mediated Access through a On Prem Collector Connected Cisco Products send usage information to a local Collector, which automatically completes the transaction with the backend. The Collector will be a free download Cisco Product HTTPs Common Collector Cisco.com Your Cisco Software Usage 4 Mediated Access through a On Prem Collector - Disconnected Cisco Products send usage information to a local disconnected collector. Once a month, an exchange of human readable information will be performed to keep the information in sync. Cisco Product HTTPs Common Collector File Transfer Cisco.com Your Cisco Software Usage 20

38 And Now for Your Questions. Some of our software isn t licensed. In the future will Cisco add licenses to those products? When will we see improvements in the licensing experience? Will there be an impact to pricing? Do I have to buy the new product to obtain licensing relief or is there a migration plan? How does the current licensing approach work with new products when they are enabled with the new licensing model? Q & A Make Sure to Visit Cisco will provide reporting capabilities for these products but no licensing enforcement is expected. Customers should begin to see major improvements by the end of Pricing is not expected to change due to licensing changes. A migration plan is being developed for products with a long life. Products nearing end of life (2-3 years) will not be part of the migration plan. The new model is an customer option. If you choose not to use it then current licensing will continue to work the same way it does today. Booth# 1537 Walk in Labs: LABARC
