2 PHARMA. DIGITAL. CONNECTED. KRKA, SLOVENIA ANNIVERSARY: KRKA AND WERUM CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL COLLABORATION Werum s PAS-X is Krka s standard MES / Implementation in 12 manufacturing sites in different European countries A reason to be proud of: Krka and Werum collaborate to improve the pharmaceutical production at Krka facilities already for 20 years. Krka is a leading international generic pharmaceutical manufacturer with headquarters in Novo mesto, Slovenia. The collaboration started in the 1990s with the first project covering a PAS- X 1.4 system for the tableting plant in Novo mesto. Later on, it was extended with W&D for the plant Notol in Novo mesto. In parallel, the go-live preparations in the fully automated plant Notol-1 began. With the switch to SAP in 2004, PAS-X was migrated to V2 and rolled out in plants outside Slovenia. An important milestone for Krka and Werum was the start of the V3 program with a pilot implementation in 2013 in the Croatian plant. Notol-2 was built and successfully taken into operation in In the next big step, Krka will migrate the Notol-1 plant to V3. Since the PAS-X V1 implementation 20 years ago, PAS-X became our standard MES system and is being used today in about 12 sites in Slovenia, Croatia, Russia, Poland, and Germany, says Sebastijan Kos at Krka, d. d., Novo mesto. We have been able to establish a reliable and personal partnership with Werum, which we value very much. We are very pleased that Krka places their confidence in us, says Hendrik Harms, Project Manager at Werum IT Solutions GmbH. Krka is one of our long-standing customers with a complete MES footprint. With 1,800 users, 850 terminals and 200 connected SCADA systems, Novo mesto represents the largest PAS-X installation worldwide. CHUGAI PHARMACEUTICAL, JAPAN CHUGAI TO DEPLOY WERUM S PAS-X MES FOR BIOPHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTION IN JAPAN New plant in Tokyo designed for production of cutting-edge biotech APIs / Werum s PAS-X MES chosen for its standard product approach and pre-configured content packages Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a member of the Roche Group, has chosen Werum s PAS-X MES for a greenfield project at their Ukima site in the north of Tokyo. Chugai is one of Japan s leading research-based pharmaceutical companies specialized in prescription drugs with strengths in biotechnology products. The new plant is designed to produce cutting-edge biopharmaceuticals APIs using cell cultivation USP/DSP production processes. Together with its partner in Japan, Chiyoda System Technologies Corporation, Werum will deliver a full-scope PAS-X MES, including standardized level 2 and level 4 interfaces. Customizations will be reduced to an absolute minimum. Chugai opted for PAS-X due to its standard product approach and Werum s experience in the biopharmaceutical industries. After conducting thorough research through reference visits at several pharma companies sites in the US and visiting the PAS-X UGM several times, we are convinced that PAS-X is the best answer to the needs of our new Ukima plant, says a representative of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. In particular the innovative content specifically aiming at biopharmaceutical production processes and developed together with other PAS- X customers was a decisive factor. 2 WERUM

3 B. BRAUN, GERMANY B. BRAUN S FIRST PAS-X V3 PROJECT SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED Upgrade to PAS-X at plant A in Melsungen / Integration of ERP and DCS / Extension to full-scope MES and roll-out to other German sites planned B. Braun Melsungen AG B. Braun updated their PAS-X system from PAS-X V2 to V3 in plant A at their HQs in Melsungen. B. Braun is one of the world s leading healthcare providers. In plant A, the company produces anesthesia i.e. tranquilizers and hypnotics for all surgical processes. In order to meet the global demand, it was necessary to extend and automate the weighing process. A Fit/Gap analysis showed that many of our required functions are included in the latest PAS-X version, says Mike Werner, Engineer for Control Systems, B. Braun Melsungen AG. As an adjustment of our old system would have resulted in higher costs, the decision for an upgrade to PAS-X was quickly taken. The upgrade is B. Braun s first project. The new version is implemented close-to-standard. PAS-X is fully integrated with SAP ERP on Level 4 and with Simatic Batch DCS on Level 2. For the future, B. Braun plans to extend their PAS-X system to a functionally complete MES and to roll-out to further sites in Melsungen and Berlin. ASTRAZENECA, USA ASTRAZENECA SUCCESSFULLY DIGITIZES MANUFAC- TURING PROCESSES WITH GLOBAL STANDARD MES CORE SYSTEM Deployment of AZ s standard MES on the basis of Werum s PAS-X / Single software version for all sites / Standardized business processes and enhanced data integrity The leading biopharmaceutical manufacturer AstraZeneca had a diversified MES landscape: from paper-based execution to various legacy systems. In order to harmonize, the company opted for Werum as its preferred MES supplier. We conducted a feasibility study with the conclusion that PAS-X was the best fit for our requirements, says Rod Hoffman, Senior Manufacturing Business Analyst, AstraZeneca. But without central coordination and a core program, our deployments were not standardized from an IT or business process perspective. The goal is to use a common technology platform alongside guidelines to help drive standardization across the network. AZ aims at a single software version in all manufacturing sites, reducing development effort, rollout times and maintenance costs. The PAS-X system from the Mount Vernon plant served as a template to leverage the ERP interface to the North American SAP instance. After the successful first standard MES core go-live in Mount Vernon the go-lives of Frederick and Newark soon followed. WERUM 3

4 PHARMA. DIGITAL. CONNECTED. DESITIN, GERMANY LEADING PRODUCER OF ANTI-EPILEPTICS INTRODUCES PAS-X TRACK & TRACE Fast implementation out of the box at Desitin s plant in Hamburg, Germany / Regional and mid-sized pharma manufacturer benefits from comprehensive product-based functionality Desitin Arzneimittel implements Werum s PAS-X Track & Trace as level 3 solution at its plant in Hamburg, Germany. The company is a regional, mid-sized pharmaceutical manufacturer with leading positions in the treatment of neurological and psychiatric illnesses especially epilepsy and Parkinson s syndrome. Desitin required a lean, powerful and easy to implement track-and-trace solution to comply with the anti-counterfeiting requirements of its various international target markets. These include all EU countries. We opted for Werum s PAS-X Track & Trace solution as the connector between the shop floor and the serialization level because it meets all of our requirements, says D. Weniger, Head of Process Department and Project Lead of FMD Project, Desitin Arzneimittel GmbH. It is a proven serialization and aggregation solution that is already used successfully by many pharma and biotech manufacturers around the globe. Werum s PAS-X Track & Trace solution is installed out of the box thus ensuring a short implementation time and safeguarding future upgrades. Initially the system covers two packaging lines and will be extended in It integrates the SAP ERP and SAP ATTP at level 4 with the OCS at the shop floor level. HERMES ARZNEIMITTEL, GERMANY EUROPE S LARGEST MANUFACTURER OF EFFERVESCENT TABLETS OPTS FOR WERUM S PAS-X Werum s combined software and pharma expertise as decisive factor / Implementation of PAS-X Track & Trace in plants in Germany and Austria The pharma company Hermes Arzneimittel has opted for Werum s PAS-X. At its production sites in Wolfratshausen, Germany, and Wolfsberg, Austria, the company will initially implement PAS-X Track & Trace in packaging. Hermes Arzneimittel a leading, mediumsized pharma company is Europe s largest manufacturer of effervescent tablets and other OTC products. In addition to their own products, Hermes Arzneimittel manufactures on behalf of other pharma companies. As contract manufacturer, the company has to fulfill not only strict requirements of regulatory authorities, but also the requirements of its pharma customers. This includes connecting to different level 4 customer systems to exchange serial numbers. PAS-X Track & Trace will serve as central platform for the flexible integration of level 4 customer systems. Werum s software covers the labeling requirements of all target countries and offers comprehensive product-based functionality out of the box. In search of a strong supplier, we soon came across Werum, says Frank Hemmers, Head of IT, Hermes Arzneimittel GmbH. It s software and pharma expertise convinced us a combination that cannot be taken for granted in the Track & Trace area. 4 WERUM

5 TRACK & TRACE SERIALIZATION BENEFITS OF MES SYSTEMS AS LEVEL 3 TRACK & TRACE SOLUTIONS According to the ANSI/ISA S95 standard, an efficient Track & Trace solution should integrate level 4 with the packaging equipment and line controllers on shop floor level 2 via standard interfaces. Level 4 comprises the ERP for the administration of material master data as well as the Central Repository which is typically responsible for the generation and randomization of serial numbers. In some scenarios no level 4 repository might be required, so that the level 3 Track & Trace solution should also be able to generate serial numbers and act as a long term archive for these numbers at least at site level. To benefit from the advantages of comprehensive production control and documentation including equipment management the Track & Trace solution can also be directly integrated into an MES on level 3. The serialization solution should be integrated into an MES to benefit from the advantages of comprehensive production control and documentation. To enable a fully connected pharma production, Werum offers a new Plug & Produce solution on the basis of PAS-X. Message-based interface Werum s new Plug & Produce solution allows a fast and easy integration of machines and automation systems into a pharmaceutical production environment previously a highly complex and timeconsuming task. This is possible because the machine on the shop floor and our PAS-X MES communicate directly via Werum s new standardized messagedbased interface, explains Klaus Sauermann, Senior Head of Business Development at Werum IT Solutions GmbH. Our Plug & Produce concept ensures that PAS-X and a new machine or automation system speak the same language. Open vendor-independent interface What makes Werum s Plug & Produce solution unique is that it is an open, completely vendor-independent solution: Pharmaceutical manufacturers can use it with any smart equipment such as filter integrity testers and analytical test devices as well as with DCS or SCADA systems. Together with partners, vendors, pharma companies and organizations like ISPE, Werum is collaborating to establish a message-based interface as an open industry standard, which will be included in Werum s PAS-X MES software. Reduced integration workload Drug manufacturers benefit from a significantly lower engineering, configuration and qualification workload. The installation is less prone to errors and project run times are highly reduced. Compared to before, the workload for integrating a new machine into the production environment can be cut by up to 75 percent, says Klaus Sauermann.
