1 GRANTA MI Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench Version 1.0 Release Notes

2 2 Introduction GRANTA MI from Granta Design Limited is the leading materials information management software system for engineering enterprises. GRANTA MI meets the disparate needs of the materials experts, product designers, engineering analysts, data publishers, and other professionals who work with information related to metals, composites, ceramics, plastics, and other materials. GRANTA MI is a modular system, enabling your company to configure a materials information management solution that meets your specific needs and workflows. The MI:Materials Gateway module enables data and tools from GRANTA MI to be accessed from within selected CAD and CAE software. With this module, you can access and browse your corporate materials database (and/or Granta-supplied reference data on materials properties), choose applicable materials, and assign those materials to parts within your design or simulation model. Depending on the options specified, a variety of analytics, dashboard, reporting and data output tools are available. These Release Notes relate to Version 1.0 of the MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench, the simulation platform from ANSYS Inc. Version 1.0 is the launch release of this Gateway product, and supports ANSYS Workbench 14. Granta is committed to maintaining GRANTA MI s leading position. Regular update releases deliver new features and performance enhancements, guided by input from our customers, while keeping pace with changing systems requirements. To install MI:Materials Gateway, follow the installation instructions available with the download, using the alphanumeric key from your company s GRANTA MI license agreement. It is likely that your deployment will follow procedures relating to deployment and support of the host CAD or CAE system. 3 3 GRANTA MI: System Overview GRANTA MI is a modular system, enabling your company to configure a materials information management solution that meets your specific needs and workflows. The following is a summary of the modules and components relevant to MI:Materials Gateway. MI:Server the core database system. All GRANTA MI modules are built around this. Included with MI:Server is MI:Server Configuration, a Windows application for configuring the GRANTA MI system. MI:Viewer the main web browser user interface, which enables browsing, searching, editing, management, and use of both corporate materials data and reference information via your browser. MI:Materials Gateway makes use of a subset of MI:Viewer functionality for displaying materials datasheets. MI:Admin a Windows application for database schema construction and maintenance. MI:Admin is provided to any organization purchasing MI:Server and MI:Viewer licenses in order to manage and use in-house materials data. MI:Materials Gateway a module enabling data and tools from GRANTA MI to be accessed within selected CAD and CAE software. MI:Materials Gateway is installed as an embedded client in the host CAD or CAE software, and communicates with the MI:Service Layer on your server. MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench is the subject of these Release Notes. MI:API a package of software components providing programmatic access to the data managed in GRANTA MI, enabling programmers to integrate this with other in-house systems and data. MI:Service Layer a server-side architectural component providing the various database access and data manipulation services used by MI:Materials Gateway. MI:Restricted Substances reporting capabilities to assist risk assessment and risk management relating to restricted substances. For MI:Materials Gateway users, takes the form of an interactive dashboard and a set of pre-configured report options. (Note that this module is only relevant to CAD integrations, and is not therefore available with MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench.) MI:Eco Audit reporting capabilities enabling rapid estimation of the environmental impact (energy use and CO 2 footprint) of a product. For MI:Materials Gateway users, takes the form of an interactive dashboard and a set of pre-configured report options. (Note that this module is only relevant to CAD integrations, and is not therefore available with MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench.) Comprehensive descriptions of these tools and the combined capabilities of the resulting materials information management system are available in the accompanying documentation. For documentation on MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench specifically, please refer to

4 4 Prerequisites and supported platforms Product: GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench Version: 1.0 Host system versions: ANSYS Workbench 14 Client operating systems: Windows XP 32 SP3 Windows Vista 32 SP2 Windows 7 32 SP1 Windows XP 64 SP2 Windows Vista 64 SP1 Windows 7 64 SP1 Client web browser: As per GRANTA MI support policy GRANTA MI versions: MI:Server MI:ServiceLayer Custom reporting package User resources: Important notes: MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench has been released between major releases of GRANTA MI, and may therefore require an MI:Service Layer version more recent than that supplied with your original GRANTA MI installation. You must make sure you have obtained and installed MI:Service Layer before installing and using MI:Materials Gateway for ANSYS Workbench. MI:Materials Gateway requires Gateway-ready versions of GRANTA MI databases. This is a straightforward configuration, which is done already for Granta-supplied reference data modules.
