1 Mobile Device Management Software Industry: 2017 Market Landscape EXCERPT

2 What is the Market Landscape for MDM Software in 2017? AOTMP defines Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) as the comprehensive set of enterprise-wide, mobility-related people, processes, vendors and technologies involved in managing the lifecycle of all mobile devices, and M2M- and IoT-connected endpoints, services and applications. This Market Landscape report focuses on a subset of EMM that includes Mobile Device Management (MDM) software, Mobile Application Management (MAM) and Mobile Content Management (MCM). This report discusses enterprise and vendor trends, and contains profiles of leading and emerging MDM software providers. To reach its conclusions for this Market Landscape report, AOTMP Research relied on interviews with enterprises and vendors, as well as existing data and analyst expertise. The key takeaway is that despite its high-profile nature and obvious benefits, adoption of MDM software among enterprises remains modest. Most organizations seem to understand the importance of MDM although not all have implemented it. In late 2016, 25 percent of 272 enterprises told AOTMP Research they had yet to deploy MDM software but were planning to do so. The organizations that have MDM software today use it mostly for security protections. However, this myopic, albeit indispensable, emphasis on security means enterprises overlook ways to use MDM software to greater effect. Most even admit they are not using their MDM software to its fullest potential. Here are the features and functionality enterprises report using, from most to least: Most Used Somewhat Used Least Used Remote wipe Mandatory passwords Remote lock Data encryption Device encryption Jailbreak detection Application store Application configuration, Wi-Fi payload configuration,, Content configuration, VPN configuration, Data backup/ recovery The Most Used bucket correlates with previous AOTMP Research conclusions, which found that the most common security protocols deployed include password protection and remote wipes. The Somewhat Used and Least Used findings represent opportunities for organizations to get more business value out of their MDM platforms AOTMP. AOTMP. All Rights Reserved.

3 None of that is to say security is not important it is vital, especially considering the breaches that occur almost daily. As such, enterprises continue to cite security as the top feature evaluated when considering a purchase of MDM software. Additional considerations include: Ease of configuration/ongoing of devices Ease of initial deployment End-user experience Compatibility with other internal business applications Price Service/support Scalability Reporting features Again, while these results fall in line with AOTMP Research s expectations and observations, they also point to the need to highlight other areas enterprises should explore, for their own gain. Through enterprise questionnaire research and discussions, along with in-depth briefings with vendors that offer MDM software, AOTMP Research has observed and uncovered five primary trends related to the MDM software industry: 1. MDM software integration with business systems falls short 2. MDM software is not used to its fullest potential 3. Growth opportunity in the MDM software market is significant 4. MDM is not a replacement for MMS 5. Vendor MDM software solution capabilities are expanding This report, Mobile Device Management Software Industry: 2017 Market Landscape, evaluates each of these trends in further detail, and provides profiles and AOTMP perspective on 21 MDM vendors. The information gathered for these profiles came from public data, company briefings and AOTMP Research analyst insight. To be part of this MDM Software Market Landscape, each vendor had to satisfy minimum inclusion criteria, comprised of the following: Hold active Efficiency First Vendor Solution Certification credentials or have briefed with AOTMP over the past 12 months; and/or AOTMP must have received an inquiry from an enterprise about the vendor in the past 12 months; and The vendor must have their own MDM software platform. Other factors revenue, number of customers and years in business also were considered for qualification. Review the report s contents below AOTMP. AOTMP. All Rights Reserved.
