Code Migration Classic ABAP code skills required Tune your SPAU process, there will be plenty of upgrades Bad code is bad code, HANA or not Get very familiar with ATC, know the quirks and limitations Have a strategy for code retirement Fix once, move changes to production early See appendix for reference links and code gotchas

Code Migration, Reference Links Open SAP; ABAP Development for SAP HANA SCN blogs on ATC; OSS Notes

Code Migration, Gotchas Code in Smart Forms, repairs, enhancements etc. are not checked in ATC by default 3.rd party add-ons Protected code ORDER BY vs. SORT (moving corrections to production before HANA migration) DB views & join performance

HANA Migration Experience so-far HANA has been Stable! Several HW failures 8 sorting issues 1 SAP program causing out of memory dumps 1 HANA is too fast (3 rd party product code) Users are happy A foundation to build on Its faster (nearly always): Transaction Reduction average response time % Reductio n in DB% IW72 Service Order selction -7,12 150,27 ME23N Display Purchase Order -6,8-13,96 MM03 Display Material -10,4-17,77 CJ20N Project Builder -24,78-23,34 CATW TimeSheet -26,84-34,38 CV04N Display Document -4,71-34,85 FBL3N Display GL account Lineitems 5,98-41,42 FBL1N Display Vendor items -13,94-70,33 FAGLL03 Display GL acount Lineitems -13,38-75,64 KKAC Sales Order Reporting -66,62-85,56

Lesson learned Align end-user expectation Order Hardware well in advance Understand possible implications Simple - but more complex Prepare for shift in competence Think about size vs licences Added complexity to support Secure skilled and dedicated resources Handle constant changes

Important considerations and lesson learned Important to align end-user expectation (wow effect takes time to get..) Skilled and dedicated Resources ability to scale resources to project needs on the fly You need to be able to handle constant changes In depth analysis needed to understand possible implications e.g. sfin implications on existing functionality (cash management) Added complexity to development and application support Think about size vs licences (archiving) SFIN increase amount of data Shift in competence required in new technology Order Hardware well in advance
