1 Hardware Announcement September 26, 2006 New IBM SurePOS 500 Models 545 and 565 offer productivity and prestige for retail environments at a competitive cost Overview The IBM 4846 SurePOS 500 POS System can make your retail environment the best it can be with retail-hardened SurePOS 500 Series models. These models allow you to select the software from IBM Business Partners for your specific environment, enabling you to run many system unit options and a wide array of peripheral devices. Performance The new SurePOS 500 Models 545 and 565 have 2.53 GHz Celeron D 326 (2.53 GHz) processor with industry-leading technology for peak application performance. The new models incorporate Serial ATA Hard Disk Drive, DDR 2 Memory and Express Architecture Video for better performance and potential support for future technology and operating systems IR Touch Improved Infrared (IR) touch with the activation area placed closer to the screen, reducing unintentional activations and improving direct sunlight performance. Improved serviceability The SurePOS 500 is designed to allow for more CRU Customer Replaceable Units. The tool free design allows customers or field repair technicians to quickly and economically remove and replace modules thereby reducing outages and simplifying recovery when needed. This helps reduce total cost of ownership. Reliable and sleek design The SurePOS 500 continues to meet the needs of harsh environments of restaurants and retail with its sleek design and compact footprint, while helping improve your customers experience. Key prerequisites SurePOS Models E45 and E65 are preloaded with Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service. Recovery CD is available via feature code that can be ordered with the initial purchase or later as an MES. To order the recovery CD as an MES you must provide an entitled machine type model and serial. The recovery CD is not transferable between hardware and should be used only on the machine type model serial for which it was ordered. The new SurePOS 500 Series models offer: An Intel Celeron D 326 (2.53 GHz) processor 512MB of DDR2 memory standard, upgradeable to 1 GB, 1.5GB, or 2GB. 8 to 128 MB UMA video memory A 80 GB SATA 2 HDD or greater 15 inch (12.1 inch options) Infrared (IR) touch New enhanced wireless integration kit providing coverage and flexibility to meet most country-specific wireless requirements by utilizing USB technology (USB wireless Dongle not included). The Performance multimedia models also offer the capability to add wireless support via PC card slot. Enhanced systems management Port enhancements, including powered 12V and 24V USB ports, standard A wide range of optional features including receipt printers, displays, and trays to keep the counter neat. Performance Multimedia Model (Model 565) The Model 565 display has excellent visibility in bright light via a 12 inch (or optional 15 inch dual-bulb) IR touch screen that provides a wide viewing angle for training many people at once, and a headphone jack for private, quiet training in active environments. An independent video adapter is available as an option to display a multimedia image on a second LCD for advertising or upselling. Where stringing cable is not practical, wireless capability through a PC Card type-ii slot or customer supplied USB wireless dongle enables the use of wireless capability. Performance Standard Model (Model 545) If you need full-function POS or combined POS/back-office terminal at an entry price point, the 545 is the right choice for you. It offers a dual-bulb active color LCD and the same processing power as the model 565, all at a lower total cost of ownership. A great new value-add from IBM is systems management being delivered by Remote Management Agent Version 2 (RMAV2) that offers dynamic new capabilities with its integration with IBM Director Server. Both RMA V2 and IBM Director are no charge products delivering market leading systems management capabilities of IBM Point of Sales hardware. Together they offer significant value to the Retail space in managing Total Store environments. RMA V2 supports IBM SurePOS 700, SurePOS 300, SurePOS 500, Anyplace Kiosks, Mobile Tablet for Retail (MTR), and Self Checkout. RMA V2 delivers systems management functionality such as configuration management, inventory management, event notification and forwarding, remote operations, software distribution, and monitoring. The following driver and diagnostic programs for the SurePOS 500 Series are available on the IBM Retail Store Solutions Web site at support At this site, for Drivers, select the proper drive package under the Peripheral Drivers section. For Diagnostics programs, under Systems select IBM SurePOS 500 Series, go to downloads and select machine type, download the IBM Diagnostics for Point of Sale Systems and Peripherals. For DOS 2000, Touch and Ethernet drivers are required. For Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition: UPOS drivers for Windows V1.9.2 or later. 7 support Planning information Customer responsibilities: The customer is responsible for unpacking and setting up the components in accordance with the customer setup instructions provided. You have the ability to hard-mount the 4846 to a countertop. Therefore, consideration should be given to the type of warranty service you choose. For Depot Repair models, it is your responsibility to remove and re-install the unit, which will require skills and or tools. You have the option of the removal and replacement being provided by a service provider or by choosing an on-site repair model. You are responsible for placing legends in the key tops and for keyboard customization as applicable. You are responsible for ordering at least one 4846 ship group per store. You are responsible for keeping the system BIOS current by downloading the latest level from the following Web Site A system unit with Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service preload will have a blank HDD installed if replacement is necessary. It is the customer s responsibility to reload the HDD. Cable orders: A power cord is automatically shipped with the Plug type is determined by country code except for those countries that utilize both high and low voltage. The power cord for those countries is determined by the country code and voltage specified for the base machine. All input/output (I/O) device attachment cables are optional and are shipped per the customer order. Installability: This is a Customer Setup (CSU) product. For planning purposes, installation time will typically range from less than half an hour to two hours. Actual time will depend on the of features to be installed and the experience of the installer. Security, auditability, and control This product uses the security and auditability features of the SurePOS 500 Series, such as Power-on password, HDD password, vital product data, provisions to bolt down the system unit or secure the HDD. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
