V7.1 includes the following new capabilities and enhancements: New and enhanced software development platform integrations Enhanced Rational ClearQuest Integration s can instantiate ClearQuest records in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager as summary tasks or scope elements rather than just tasks. This is a welcome addition to the current capabilities for those users who create ClearQuest records to track activities at a less granular level or who need a one-to-one mapping between scope elements. In addition, users can instantiate ClearQuest records from IBM Rational Portfolio Manager Tasks. s will be able to schedule the synchronization as well as synchronize on demand. Enhanced IBM Rational Method Composer Integration For IBM Rational Method Composer, the IBM Rational Portfolio Manager V7.1 release includes the following enhancements: Apply templates at any level of the Work Breakdown Structure. Allow the user to import the IBM Rational Method Composer template as a proposal. Deliver estimates in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager based on the outcome of estimates done in IBM Rational Method Composer. Support for a variety of other estimation methodologies is also delivered by IBM Business Partners who provide integrations of estimation tools to IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. New IBM Rational RequisitePro Integration This new integration gives project managers greater visibility and insight into the relationship between development activities and requirements from RequisitePro. It allows business analysts to trace requirements to the corresponding requirements and development activities in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. RequisitePro requirements instantiated in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager can have resources applied to them, to be scheduled, have cost and benefit assigned to them, and moved to the appropriate iteration. In short, they can be treated as any other scope element in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. Enhanced reporting The IBM Rational Portfolio Manager V7.1 release includes significant enhancements to the pivot and reporting capability, including: Data in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager will be stored in a data warehouse to allow trending. Standard reporting tools can be used to perform arbitrary queries. The schema will be an easy-to-use normalized layout and it will be published. s can add other data sources to the data warehouse using third-party tools. Improved performance thanks to changes in the querying mechanism. Install enhancements A pre-install assessment tool will guide the user through a series of questions, collecting information regarding the number and usage patterns of their users, database and middleware options, security requirements, and so on. Based on the collected data, an appropriate hardware/software environment for the deployment of IBM Rational Portfolio Manager will be recommended. 3 Making a few minor adjustments, the user will then confirm that they have the right topology identified and a configuration file is generated. After setting up the target environment, the pre-install validation tool ensures that the hardware, operating system, application server, and database match the configuration file generated by the assessment tool and are operating properly. The green light is given for the installation to proceed, and guided by the new wizard, the software is quickly installed and IBM Rational Portfolio Manager is ready to be configured for use within the user's unique project environment. Intuitive, zero footprint Web client for team members Using this interface, a project team member can open their Web browser, log on to an IBM Rational Portfolio Manager V7.1 configuration, and get a view of the work items assigned to them, regardless whether they are duration- or effort-based. They can submit timesheets from this interface. A team member can also create, view, and update project "scope elements" and "documents" stored in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. These are then viewable by others in the organization who access the system using the rich-client interface. Enhanced, Web-based user assistance A "welcome page" appearing both on the rich client as well as the Web client gives new users information and links to help them be more productive more quickly. It also gives more experienced users with Web site references to facilitate their learning in areas not previously used. All users can review the "welcome page," out-of-the-box product tour, and tutorials made available for selected tasks. They will also be able to access external sources of information such as developerworks, online education, IBM Redbooks, and white papers. This welcome page is completely editable so that organizations can customize their own content, including items such as organization-specific training information or links to their help desk. Improved time-to-value for project managers The enhancements to the user interface provide a familiar and intuitive user experience. These include adoption of user interface standards such as dropdown menus, toolbars, and context menus in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager V7.1. Navigation improvements are available with the ability to open multiple concurrent views and enhancements to the visual cues for dragging-and-dropping. Information management and collaboration is enhanced through the ability to create custom filters and attach filters to layouts. Available sharing personal settings/layouts with team members increases team productivity. Also, productivity for project managers new to the tool increases through the ability to receive settings/layouts from experienced users. Project plans can be updated with an ease-of-use similar to Microsoft Project through the ability to edit directly in 'grids' and by providing 'multi-select' functions (such as copy, move, and edit). IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.
