5 5 HISTORY OF BobCAD-CAM 1979: With a desire to bring affordable CAD/CAM to the manufacturing masses Bob Twaalfhoven, an engineer graduate from MIT class of 78, created and started selling some of the first versions of BobCAD-CAM out of the trunk of his car! 1985: The doors opened to BobCAD-CAM s first office in San Jose, California with a Clearwater, Florida office opening up a few years later. 2002: The most significant developments to the software were made by adding Design Surface & Solid Modeling technology, releasing the first Artistic CNC software add-on as well as introducing the first ever training video products for customers to learn CAD/CAM from the comfort of their office. 2006: San Jose office was closed due to the expansion of the Clearwater office and all efforts were moved to the official headquarters in Florida. 2007: A complete review and overhaul of the product allowed for the release of the improved Version 22 CAD/CAM Software with the addition of Lathe, Nesting, Predator CNC Editor. 9 9 DYNAMIC MACHINING STRATEGIES INTRODUCING With our CAD/CAM software, BobCAD-CAM offers a new, unique concept in CAM technology - Dynamic Machining Strategies. DMS functionality allows users to apply any number of machining operations to a single CAD model feature, as well as allows on-the-fly editing of these operations. The result saves time, since users do not need to re-pick geometry over and over again to apply an operation. All DMS operations are wizard-driven to increase efficiency while giving users high quality toolpaths for CAM. This ability cannot be found anywhere else in the CAM industry for the price. Ultimately, DMS provides users more flexibility and control in employing machining strategies for each job. All of our CAD/CAM systems come in 32 & 64-bit versions to take advantage of your hardware resources and allow you to create efficient toolpaths. In the past, machining strategies have been fixed based on the types of operations available. with v26, BobCAD-CAM has moved to support multiple, dynamic operations via DMS on a feature level. A feature, by definition, is part of the CAD model and pertains to the geometry. then a model is loaded and users may choose any combination of machining operations to machine for one feature. For example, if you want to drill a hole, you may need to use a smaller drill to predrill. With the latest version, there is no need to edit the Tool Pattern to add the predrill hole; you simply add another drill operation to the hole feature. This concept is the heart of DMS. DMS provides improvement for 3, 4 & 5 axis machining. For example, you may add several finish passes simply by adding more operations to the feature. Operations do not share parameters, allowing independent control over each operation. For example, you can have your finish operations start in a different location than your roughing operations without using multiple features. 17 17 RASTER TO VECTOR CONVERSIONS With BobART, once the picture is imported, you can use customizable tracing features to gather vector geometry chains. Another method for vectorizing a picture is the Multicolor strategy. BobART allows up to 64 individual colors to use to turn on and turn off colors for vectorization. Individual layers can be used to create relief regions as well as being able to use them later in the machining process for toolpath containment. A great function available in BobART is the Emboss From Image feature that allows users to open and use an image file to instantly create a relief model. BobART provides unique V-Carving functionality allowing you to use a V-Cutting Tool or a combination V-Cutter & EndMill to create flats with tapered walls, perfect for custom woodworking and sign making applications. POST-PROCESSORS A Post-Processor is the language translator that will enable BobCAD-CAM software to create programs that can be read by your CNC Machines.
