4 BROCHURE NEPTUNE Neptune The complete integration platform for your organisation! Bringing different matters together to form a whole Whether an organisation is large or small, the integration requirements of today s organisations increasingly go beyond the exchange of messages alone. Neptune is consequently more than a Enterprise Service Bus (ESB); it is a complete integration platform which focuses on optimising your information provision and business processes. Integration is more than just linking up systems. Integration can be described as including something or someone in the whole or bringing different matters together to form a whole. In the context of organisations, we describe it as coordinating objectives, people, processes and technology so that together they form a well-functioning entirety. Integration at organisations is determined in large part by information being accessible, shared and made available in good time and in the appropriate context. 5 NEPTUNE BROCHURE We distinguish four types of integration: - data integration - process integration - network integration - identity integration Data integration Data integration is mainly concerned with improving the quality and availability of data. Many organisations store certain data - such as customer contact details - in multiple systems. It is therefore essential that these data are and remain identical across all systems in order to avoid the risk of incorrect conclusions and decisions being made on the basis of erroneous data. Neptune therefore offers sufficient functionality and capacity to synchronise data between various applications. Each data entity is assigned a particular system as its primary source, i.e. the source on which the data entity is always correct. In the event of a change to the data, the primary source is synchronised with other applications. The synchronisation can be performed via batch processing (whereby complete data collections are synchronised at set times) or in real-time (whereby each change in the primary source is directly synchronised with other applications). If a target system is temporary unavailable, Neptune will retain the updates and offer them for processing as soon as the target system comes back online. Another aspect of data integration is making information available in the form that we refer to as role-based comprehensive overviews. The idea is, with 1 press of the button, to generate a complete overview of something, such as a customer for example, without the need to involve all kinds of applications and in a way that is customised for a specific employee s role. Employees therefore no longer have to search for information themselves, but receive the required information in the context of their role and position. All employees with the same role are therefore provided with the same information, and a generated overview is no longer dependent on an individual employee and that employee s knowledge of or access to applications. 6 BROCHURE NEPTUNE Neptune offers support for accessing information in a way that allows information stored in various applications to be maintained, recycled and used flexibly. Accessing information like this can be used to generate one or multiple role-based comprehensive overviews. The same accessed information can therefore be recycled in multiple comprehensive overviews (also see Figure 1). The overviews can be developed by us, yourself or a third party. Accessed information can also be coordinated with pre-existing comprehensive overviews. Real time integrated customer view for sales sales Real time integrated customer view for customer service CRM ERP DMS Figure 1 The two different customer views access the same information from Neptune for retrieving data from the CRM, ERP and the DMS. In the event of a replacement or upgrade of the CRM, for example, only the link between the CRM and Neptune needs to be modified. The advantage of this is that the links between the customer views and Neptune - and thus the customer views themselves - remain unaffected. Process integration Process integration is chiefly concerned with activating business functions in applications, such as order placement on a website. To facilitate this, various business rules are applied in the ERP and other sub-processes are initiated such as the creation of a batch order and the scheduling of transport. Process integration is therefore more than updating information in an application: the information is often the trigger that initiates various other sub-processes. But how do you gain insight into the status of a process that runs across multiple departments or applications? And how can you tell who we are waiting for? Getting that information often requires a lot of telephone calls. Process integration therefore focuses primarily on monitoring and optimising processes that run across multiple applications, departments and/or organisations and which are subject to service-level agreements (SLAs) as well as the consequences of any violations. Neptune offers a Business Process Management (BPM) platform in which processes can be modelled based on Business Process Model & Notation (BPMN), including any relevant SLAs and escalations. BPMN is the de facto standard for modelling business processes that can be run on a one-to-one basis by a BPM platform. A business process modelled using BPMN is therefore also actually a part of IT implementation and forms the basis for the documentation and implementation of the process, which ensures uniformity between the two. 6 Axians - Tel:

7 NEPTUNE BROCHURE The Neptune data integration functionality is used to integrate various applications that have to be used in the process. Users are automatically assigned tasks based on task list priorities that they can deal with in the designated systems. The progress of these tasks is automatically monitored by the BPM platform which will pro-actively alert team leaders, for example, if an SLA or KPI has been or is in danger of being violated. Network integration More and more often, systems that require integrating with each other are in different network domains, which is certainly the case if you use the possibilities offered by cloud computing. Security is a key consideration when integrating different networks. Neptune does not offer just Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) support for encryption at the transmission level, but also at the message level. As a result, third parties cannot access the messages and you can tell whether a message has been modified following its transmission by the sender. Furthermore, the various links - also referred to as services - offered by Neptune can be secured by means of Basic Authentication and Lightweight Direction Access Protocol (LDAP) or Microsoft Active Directory (AD) authentication. Identity integration Single Sign-On (SSO) is also often an important aspect of integration. Users do not want to have to remember a username and password to gain access to specific information and/or services. Neptune offers support for SSO for its BPM and dashboard environment. Furthermore, Neptune also allows authentication and authorisation to be set up for customer-oriented portals, with customers able to create and maintain accounts themselves (change, request passwords, etc.). Neptune also supports user authentication based on Google, Facebook or Twitter. Axians - Tel:

8 BROCHURE NEPTUNE Neptune Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) Neptune is based on the Neptune Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). In addition to the standard functions of transforming, routing and queuing data, this ESB also supports protocol bridging, such as FTP to http, for example. Integrations that run via the ESB are automatically logged and monitored. Using a dashboard, application administrators can then view the status of a particular link and ESB performance. All messages that are exchanged between various systems as a result of an integration are automatically co-related, allowing users to easily see afterwards in the dashboard which applications have been called as a result of which initial requests, as well as the responses. The application administrator can also search messages on the basis of their content, regardless of the format in which they are offered. The Neptune ESB is implemented together with the Neptune BPM for process integration and the Neptune Master Data Management (MDM) for data synchronisation. 8 Axians - Tel:
