1 April 2009 Volume 2 - Issue 2 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: 1. WMS 8.2 Released! 2. Introducing Hydraulic Toolbox and HY-8 3. Flash Tutorials 4. Join the Aquaveo Team 5. Upcoming Training Courses WMS 8.2 Released! Aquaveo is pleased to announce the release of WMS 8.2! In addition to being more stable and reliable than WMS 8.1, this new release boasts additional enhancements to make watershed modeling easier and more user friendly than ever before. Modeling enhancements available in WMS 8.2 include: Support of calibration and batch mode processes (stochastic modeling) in the GSSHA interface GSSHA multiple scenario management Support of GSSHA wetlands, sediment transport, and groundwater/surfacewater interaction routines EMS-I IS NOW AQUAVEO: As of October 1, 2008 ems-i will operate under the name Aquaveo. For more info, please visit our website at: / merge Support of HEC-RAS 4.0 Improved web service client tools Please see WMS 8.2 Release on Page 2 Introducing Hydraulic Toolbox and HY8 Aquaveo has partnered with the Federal Highways Administration (FHWA) to create a windows based hydraulic calculator and culvert analysis program. These tools are now known as Hydraulic Toolbox and HY-8. Hydraulic Toolbox is a standalone interface that lets you analyze channel hydraulics and stable channel design, weir hydraulics, curb and gutter capacity, inlet capture, hydrologic routing through detention basins, time of concentration computations, and rational method hydrologic computations. These tools are described in more detail below: Please see Introducing on Page 3

The flash tutorials are created using state of the art demo software from Adobe. With step by step audio instructions and visual cues to help users navigate through the interface, the new tutorials offer a more effective learning environment than traditional tutorial documents. Aquaveo will continue to distribute traditional tutorial documents with all of its software packages. Until a comprehensive set of flash tutorials are created and distributed, you are welcome to view a sample flash tutorial for UTEXAS. If you like what you see please send us your feedback, we d love to hear from you! UTEXAS Flash Tutorial

3 Page 3 Introducing (from page 1) Channel Calculator: normal and critical depth computations, regular and irregular channel shapes, average and maximum shear stress computations, composite roughness using Manning roughness coefficients, average and critical velocity, roadside ditches, broad-crested, sharp-crested, Cipolletti, and V-notch weirs Curb and Gutter: width of spread, curb and gutter capacity, inlet capture for industry standard inlets Detention Basins: hydrologic routing (inflow hydrograph supplied/outflow hydrograph computed) for regular shaped basins or user supplied stage-storage capacity, and discharge rating curves. Hydraulic Toolbox Channel Calculator Time of Concentration and Rational Method Computations: HEC-22 procedures for computing time of concentration using sheet flow, shallow concentrated flow, and concentrated flow. From user supplied precipitation values, compute rainfall intensities and develop a family of IDF curves to be used with a computed or supplied time of concentration to develop hydrologic estimates for small basins. Hydraulic Toolbox also supports the saving and reading of project files and pre-formatted report generation and is nearing a full release within the next couple of months. The HY-8 Culvert Analysis Program is a comprehensive windows based culvert analysis software program. This latest version of HY-8 incorporates several improvements including: HY-8 Culvert Analysis Program Energy dissipater module Embedded culvert analysis Allows use of modified outlet loss coefficients Incorporates dynamic culvert shape database with new materials HY-8 is now available and Hydraulic Toolbox will soon be available through the Federal Highway Administration free of charge.
