1 Software Announcement September 13, 2005 IBM DB2 Entity Analytic Solutions Name Manager applies business intelligence to name processing to reduce risk and fight fraud Overview DB2 Entity Analytic Solutions Name Manager applies business intelligence to the automated name processing capabilities of the IBM DB2 Entity Analytic Identity Resolution and Relationship Resolution products to provide multicultural name recognition software solutions for your mission-critical applications. It does this by applying business rules specific to a name s culture. This capability will have many applications and is especially suited for customers focused on operational risk, antifraud, and anti-money laundering as well as for government agencies focused on homeland security. DB2 Entity Analytic Solutions Name Manager uses a cross section of function of two Language Analysis Systems products the NameClassifier and the NameHunter. NameClassifier function offers a break-through approach to automated name recognition by applying the principle that once you know the culture of a name, you can apply many business rules associated with that culture. Lou Smith, for example, would be processed differently than Lou In Sung. NameHunter function applies a detailed understanding of the cultural and linguistic properties associated with names to provide effective name-matching. You supply NameHunter with a list of names and unique record IDs, and NameHunter provides automated support for character variations, such as Smith versus Simth (typo), and support for cultural variations, such as nicknames (Betty for Elizabeth). At a glance DB2 Entity Analytic Solutions Name Manager transforms the automated name recognition capabilities of the DB2 Entity Analytic Identify Resolution and Relationship Resolution products by using a detailed understanding of the cultural and linguistic properties of names to effectively match them. Automatically identifies the cultural classification of a personal name Uses nicknames, titles, and marriage markers to make name matches For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative or the Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL Reference: YE001 Key prerequisites DB2 Entity Analytic Solutions Platforms: Win32, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and OS/390 MVS APIs: ANSI C++ Planned availability dates September 16, 2005 (electronic software delivery). 2 Description Entity Analytic Solutions uses a cross section of functionality of two OEM products from Language Analysis Systems, specifically their name classification and name hunting capabilities. Both of these capabilities are bundled under a single API (customers do not have the option to pick one or the other). Hence when they buy the IBM OEM product, they are getting functions of both, specifically optimized for an Entity Analytic Solutions deployment. Name Classification Fast and automatic cultural classification Name Classification functionality offers a break-through approach to automated name recognition. This approach is founded upon the principle that once you know the culture of a name, you can apply many business rules associated with that culture. Lou Smith for example, would be processed differently than Lou In Sung. Name Classification is an important step in this process. It is a software tool for automatically identifying the cultural classification of a personal name. Benefits: Adds intelligence to automated name processing by automatically identifying the cultural classification of a personal name. Increases precision for name processing by delivering cultural classification as a range of scores for automated processing. Provides fast, easy integration via ANSI standard C++ API calls. Also can be used as a command-line utility. Capabilities: Cross-cultural support is offered in one product, supporting: Anglo/European, Arabic, Chinese, Hispanic, French, German, Indian, Korean, Pakistani, Russian/Slavic, Thai, Japanese, Western African cultures, and more. A single name part can be classified, or the entire name. Scoring for each supported culture allows for fine-grained control of selectivity, and flexible integration with existing or new enterprise applications. Extensible design allows for new culture-types to be added in future releases. Name Hunter Name Hunter functionality is included in the API. Name Hunter offers a break-through approach to automated name recognition. This approach is founded upon the principle that effective name-matching must be based on a detailed understanding of the cultural and linguistic properties associated with names. Name Hunter is a name-searching engine that provides ranked search results, based on linguistic and cultural variation patterns. You supply Name Hunter with a list of names and unique record IDs. Name Hunter provides automated support for Level 1 and Level 2 variations in names. These include: Level One: Character Variation Typos: SMITHSIMTH, JOHNSONJPHNSON Noise: THOMPSONTH9MP2ON Concatenations: ANDREWSANDREWSJR Truncation/Initials: IVANOVIVANOVSKY, PATRICKP Level Two: Cultural Variation Titles: Dr., Rev, Haj, Sri., Col., Suffixes: aldin, oglu, skii/ skaya, Prefixes: Fitz, O, De La, Abdul, Qualifiers: Jr., fils, neto, sobrinho, Ph.D., Infixes: de, vde., Nicknames: Johnny, Betty, Alyosha, Paco, Cultural Variants: Imhemed/Mohamed/Mohd When configured with the Name Classifier, selection of the appropriate cultural and linguistic variation-patterns by Name Hunter can be fully automated, or this choice can be left for the end user. Benefits: Adds intelligence to automated name processing by applying business rules specific to the name s culture Increases accuracy and selectivity by examining each possible name, rather than using a key-based approach Increases usefulness of search results by delivering matched names in ranked order with a confidence score for automated processing Reduces false positives by intelligently processing the cultural variations found in names Fast, easy integration via ANSI standard C++ API calls, or as an XML-based IP server process Capabilities: Offers broad cross-cultural support in one product, supporting: Anglo/European, Arabic, Chinese, Hispanic, French, German, Indian, Korean, Pakistani, Russian/Slavic, Thai, Japanese, Western African cultures, and more Provides fine-grained control over search and match processing via API access to all adjustable parameters Provides full in-box support for Level I and Level II name variations, including nicknames, titles, marriage markers, and more across multiple cultures Technical information: IP-Server version: XML over TCP-IP sockets. Full XML Document Type Description (DTD) for the supported message set is available upon request. Name comparisons are performed in-memory. Names to be matched can be supplied individually (for pair-wise comparisons) or as a searchable list, sourced from a CSV-format ASCII text file or an Oracle database. ODBC/ADO access is also supported in Windows 32-bit environments. Product positioning DB2 Entity Analytic Solutions Name Manager is an enhancement product that adds intelligence to the automated name processing capabilities of the DB2 Entity Analytic Identity Resolution and Relationship Resolution products preprocessing and normalization processes. It does this by applying business rules specific to the name s culture
