27 27 Communications Technologies Technology Use Descrip1on Fiber Public Carrier Power Line Carrier System to System Device to Device / System Device to System Fiber- op/c communica/on is a method of transmi7ng informa/on from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an op/cal fiber. The light forms an electromagne/c carrier wave that is modulated to carry informa/on. The mode of communica/on leverage s the use of exis/ng cell phone communica/on s infrastructure installed by telecommunica/ons providers such as AT&T and Verizon, etc. Power line communica/ons systems operate by adding a modulated carrier signal to the wiring system. Since the power distribu/on system was originally intended for transmission of AC power at typical frequencies of 50 or 60 Hz, power wire circuits have only a limited ability to carry higher frequencies. The propaga/on problem is a limi/ng factor for each type of power line communica/ons. WiMAX Device to System IEEE e standards- based, high capacity, moderate range solu/on. Mesh/WiFi Device to Device / System WiFi- based solu/on that adds peer- to- peer rou/ng and creates a self- healing network. OVen deployed in unlicensed or registered frequencies. Provides high throughput with the shortest range of the op/ons listed. Narrowband Licensed Device to System OVen called VHF, UHF, or Data over Voice Trunked. Operates with very narrow channels in 200, 400, 800, or 900 MHz licensed frequencies. Best range in class. Broadband Unlicensed Device to System Non standards- based solu/ons, based on modified WiFi or other technologies. Provides high throughput, but is highly suscep/ble to interference.
