Mapping middleware functionality covers the gamut from document design to print management to multi-channel delivery. The software system connects to a wide variety of input data sources that in turn feed into professional business document design. Mapping produces most of the standard print and electronic output formats required in business communications. In addition, Mapping is available on many different server platforms and is capable of integrating with many other key elements of typical output management infrastructure. The new Indexing optional feature allows you to add indexes to PDF files, allowing these files to be used by other applications, such as an archival system. The new Mapping Version Manager optional feature simplifies the administration of Mapping Suite applications. Key prerequisites For Indexing, an AIX, Unix, Microsoft Windows, or System i server. For Mapping Version Manager, a Unix/AIX, Linux, or Microsoft Windows server. Planned availability date February 29, 2008 Description Indexing The new Indexing optional feature of Mapping enables indexing of PDF files and PDF file content to integrate with downstream document functions. A key application is indexing of PDF files in order to flow to archival systems, such as IBM Content Manager. The workflow for this is as follows: You define index criteria in the design interface (Mapdraw). For example, a customer invoice might require that you define customer number and invoice number as the indexes. Separately, you would define the file structure required to work with the specific archival system. If you are archiving to IBM Content Manager, it would be looking for a specific index file structure. You simply put the application into production. In addition, you can use Indexing to control the naming of PDF files. 2 file name pdf, where is the customer number and is the invoice number). Indexing is available on AIX, UNIX, Microsoft Windows, and System i servers. Mapping Version Manager The Mapping Version Manager optional feature is an integrated module that simplifies the administration of Mapping Suite applications. Mapping Suite applications are composed of a set of templates and objects that are processed through design, development, review, validation, and production stages. These objects may be deployed on different servers. With Mapping Version Manager, you can: Manage the life cycle of Mapdraw and Papreport templates. The life cycle can include the various steps from concept to production development, test, quality assurance, pre-production, production, and expiration Define users by roles Create and manage permissions for users or groups or users Deploy document templates automatically on different servers Create zip files to send applications and software patches to target servers Display history and export log files Produce printer statistics reports Mapping Version Manager requires Mapping Output Manager and is available on Unix/AIX, Linux, and Microsoft Windows platforms. Unicode support: The Manage DBCS optional feature of Mapping has been renamed the Unicode optional feature.
