2 User Engagement You can achieve a better outcome when your staff are part of the solution rather than the actual problem. Greentrac s User Engagement centres around showing the employee How Efficiently they are using their PC. The Efficiency Score represents idle (wasted) time on an employee s PC. It is a neutral score regardless of the number of PCs, the type of PC the employee uses, and is independent of the number of hours the employee works. This means employees can compare their performance to their department, other departments and against the organisation. Make it easy Give employees a real time, easy to understand efficiency score, and make it available in the Greentrac Web Portal, mobile phone, IP phone display, company intranet or SharePoint portal. This mode is used to establish the PC fleet s energy consumption baseline. Silent mode is also used by organisations that wish to roll out Greentrac to the PC fleet but introduce the User Engagement feature at a later date, minimising end user communications. When an employee is logged onto multiple PCs simultaneously and one or more of their PCs is idle, Greentrac gives them the option to standby the computers that are not in use.

3 User Assistance Greentrac s User Assistance consists of a centrally controlled power plan system. The IT department maps various power plan settings which are automatically rolled out to the PC at various times during the day. 4 Technology Greentrac utilises an event processing technology called EventCenter that dramatically reduces the complexity of the workstation monitoring agent. EventCenter provides real time reporting, massive scalability and removes the requirement for external data storage or database systems. powered by EventCenter Low Impact Agent One of the most important design considerations in developing Greentrac was making sure the agent software would not impact workstation performance or conflict with the wide range of software that organisations are already running on their PCs. We designed the Greentrac agent to collect performance data from the PC and ship it to an Event Processing Engine called EventCenter (the Greentrac server). Latency Works in remote locations, which may experience high latency to the server. Offline Support The agent will cache performance data when not connected to the network. 5 Patch Management If your energy management technology turns PCs off, you need the ability to turn them back on for updates and maintenance, then shut them down once completed. Patch Management Support is built into Greentrac, giving the IT department the ability to: Schedule Power Wakeup/Shutdown Plans Disable Shutdown of PCs (by location, group, region) Manual Wakeup and Shutdown from individual PCs (to groups, locations, regions) Emergency PC shutdown (whole fleet, by location, group, region) Waking the PC Fleet Greentrac can wakeup a PC using several different types of technology, including: Wake-on-LAN Scheduled BIOS Wakeup Secure Wake-on-LAN Secure Wake-on-LAN Secure Wake-on-LAN is designed for networks which do not support the Wake-on-LAN protocol. On each network segment Greentrac locates the PC with the lowest power consumption and prevents the PC from being shutdown. When a PC on this part of the network needs to be woken up, Greentrac relays the Wake-on-LAN command via this PC. The Secure Wake-on-LAN Relay can also be deployed as a Virtual Appliance, Windows service, Linux daemon or Java application. Accuracy Accurate PC Power Reporting The amount of energy a PC uses varies minute to minute due to machine activity and connected peripherals, etc. Most power management products inaccurately calculate the PC s energy costs by assuming the PC uses a constant amount of energy (as displayed on the power supply). Greentrac calculates PC energy use by measuring low level machine activity and attached peripherals to produce an accurate picture of PC energy use. Using this method you know what it really costs to run your PC fleet and what the potential savings are really worth. Accurate Energy Tariff Reporting In organisations, the cost per kwh varies not only city to city, but can also vary building to building. In addition, the structure of tariffs can also vary to include off peak, shoulder, minimum thresholds, etc. Greentrac supports the many wide and varied energy tariff systems when calculating the cost of energy used by the PC fleet. If an employee moves their laptop from one building to another, Greentrac takes the different power tariff schemes into account when calculating the energy cost of that PC. 7 Add-on Functionality Greentrac s goal of reducing the costs of your PC fleet and reducing the environmental impact, does not stop at energy management. Greentrac LifeCycle and Greentrac Interact are add-on products that help reduce waste in your PC asset base and waste in user productivity. They use the existing Greentrac Agent and Greentrac Server and are enabled through a software switch. Example If an update is made to an application used by the accounts team, monitoring the Wait Index for the accounts team will help determine if the update has had a detrimental effect. The impact of this change would not been seen if you monitor the PC fleet as a whole. Greentrac Interact (add-on) How much time and user productivity is lost when an employee s PC is not performing well? Greentrac Interact can help you quantify individual and departmental PC performance and is designed to give the help desk and service delivery teams a real time view on how the whole PC fleet is operating. Greentrac calculates a Wait Index for each PC in the fleet as it is being used by the employee. If the PC is working effectively the score will be low, however, if the PC is slow, sluggish, not responding or experiencing excessive delays, the score will be higher. The responsiveness score can assist the Help Desk when dealing with callers or be used by the service delivery team to see what impact a change to the SOE has had. Since the responsiveness score is based on the user of the PC (not just the PC asset itself ), PC performance can be linked to departments and the applications they use, rather than just the physical location of the assets. Greentrac Lifecycle (add-on) While most business assets are only replaced when they become worn out and no longer function reliably, PCs tend to be replaced when indicated by a depreciation schedule. Greentrac reduces asset waste in the PC fleet by determining if the PC is still working reliably for the employee and predicting when the PC should be replaced. Greentrac does this by measuring how long it takes for the PC to respond to commands as the employee is using it. PCs become slower as they are patched or updated, as the disk becomes fragmented and as new applications are installed, etc. By trending the PC s dwindling responsiveness over time, Greentrac can estimate when the PC should be replaced. When calculating PC fleet replacement costs Greentrac can also be configured to include the cost of rolling out new PCs, configuration costs, removal and disposal of the old hardware. Replacement cost is expressed in terms of $ and CO 2 emissions, etc. While the PC CPU, Network, Memory, Disk IO are all normal, the User Experience is not. A high Wait Index indicates the PC is not responding well as the user is using it.
