2 PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide a high level of technical support for the Port of Townsville Limited s (POTL) databases in which high quality services are delivered through adherence to the Information Security Management System (ISO 27001) and Quality Management System (ISO 9001) documentation. This also includes the management, maintenance, integrity, security and accessibility of the organisations data stores. The position holder is responsible for the day to day running of POTL s databases and applications environments, including disaster recovery and capacity planning. This also includes the development and maintenance of web-based applications to extract and present information from corporate data stores to fulfil legislative, departmental and user requirements. To assist the Supervisor ICT Services to develop POTL s ICT systems, specifically Microsoft SQL server infrastructure and associated application systems to meet emerging internal and external needs. To provide the routine administration of enterprise management systems, as well as supporting the Technology Services team in daily duties. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Database Applications Administrator is responsible for the following:- Key Responsibilities Utilise available resources to maintain corporate databases, applications and users' requirements. Utilise available resources to develop, implement and maintain web-based applications to provide compliant, cost effective solutions to POTL s requirements. Develop and maintain applications to extract and present data from corporate data stores. Develop and apply quality standards to facilitate the coordination and consistency of data and application development as it relates to ISO and ISO Integrity of corporate data is maintained. Provide technical support for all POTL database systems and user requests ensuring swift and efficient problem resolution. Full administration of POTL s enterprise management systems, Electronic Records Document Management System and Quality Management System. Applications are developed in consultation with end users and Supervisor ICT Services. Develop project plans including resource, budget and activities and assist in the preparation of feasibility studies for proposed projects. Applications are deployed with nominated end users within agreed time frames. Modify and enhance existing applications to meet business requirements. Client needs are determined for data retrieval and/or presentation. Needs are reviewed with the Supervisor ICT Services to determine relevance and priorities. Data retrieval applications and presentation formats are developed to achieve outcomes. Presentation and development standards are adopted and applied uniformly across all corporate databases and applications. Applications are developed with adherence to the Information Security Management System and Quality Management System requirements. Participate in regular surveillance and system compliance audits. 3 Key Responsibilities Implement strategies to ensure corporate data is available to users in a shared, secure and controlled manner. Provide mobile device management and support for Apple and Android devices through the Airwatch Mobile Device Management platform. Provide maintenance of corporate databases including reporting, backup, optimisation, reindexing and initiating recovery procedures. Monitor database performance and usage, including response times, to optimise the delivery of database services. Report problems associated with database architecture to the Supervisor ICT Services. Create and maintain documentation that records modifications and developments including vendor-supplied documentation as well as Corporation-specific material. Provision of user requests and support and identify training requirements. Comply with the Workplace Health and Safety Act, POTL s Workplace Health and Safety policies, procedures and instructions to ensure a safe workplace. Action access and removal requests once approval is given in a prompt manner. Perform regular audit reviews of user access rights to application systems and reported to the Supervisor ICT Services. Ensure that all corporate mobile devices have been enrolled and configured to the relevant policy User support is provided in a timely manner. Ensure best-practice device security and management is applied to protect POTL mobile assets from current and emerging mobile threats. Databases perform efficiently. All maintenance is performed as per best-practices. Database is able to be recovered when required. Perform regular program testing and maintenance queries. Software and service packs are installed at the required level. Minimise system down-time and promptly notify users of outages. Problems detected with databases are corrected promptly and inconvenience to users is minimised. Monitor all applications, pre-empting faults where possible and ensuring scheduled maintenance is carried out. Notification of any problems and faults. Perform investigation into fault causes and initiate best-practice rectification methods. Ensure that all database and application development documentation is accurate and up to date. Provision of training and advice to internal customers. Development of training presentation materials and manuals where required. User education is provided to avoid common mistakes and to answer frequently asked questions. An effective library of documentation is provided to all users, both as updates and as part of POTL s Helpdesk Knowledge Base. Manage user access requests in a timely and efficient manner. Query databases for user reports utilising Microsoft Reporting functions and/or Crystal Reports. Compliance with the requirements of the Workplace Health and Safety Act, POTL s Workplace Health and Safety policies, procedures and responsibilities to ensure a safe workplace. Page 3 of 7

6 POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory A minimum of 5 years experience in a database administration role in a complex network environment A minimum of 5 years working with Microsoft SQL in a mature installation. At least 5 years experience in database management systems, including administration, capacity planning and security measures. Proven experience in the management of backup, restores and disaster recovery of corporate database systems. Proven experience in writing, testing and executing database queries e.g. custom views and stored procedures. Proven experience in tuning and troubleshooting application and database issues. Good knowledge of Crystal Reports, Microsoft Report Builder and Microsoft Reporting Services. Demonstrated experience in development of ASP.NET (C# and/or VB) web applications. Demonstrated project management experience in relation to implementation of new database systems and upgrades to existing database applications. Experience with Enterprise Management systems administration and Records Management systems administration. Horizontal knowledge of Microsoft systems from an application, database, server, networking and operating systems perspective. High level communication skills. Able to work after-hours and on-call as required. Desirable Knowledge of ISO and ISO 9001 standards. Knowledge of common web programming languages and techniques e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Possession of a current Queensland Open Driver s Licence. Page 6 of 7
7 SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential SC1 Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. Microsoft Certification etc.) or equivalent relevant combined experience and qualifications. SC2 Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Structured Query Language (SQL) and the tools required to effectively administer SQL databases. SC3 Demonstrated experience in specifying, developing and implementing applications, in particular web-based applications running under Microsoft IIS. SC4 Demonstrated experience in database administration comprising of the Microsoft SQL Server suite of products all supported versions in Enterprise and Standard configurations (2005, 2008, 2012, 2014). SC5 Demonstrated experience in the administration and management of enterprise management systems and / or records management systems. SC6 Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team environment with minimum supervision. Desirable DC1 DC2 Demonstrated knowledge of other programming languages and techniques e.g. HTML/CSS, Visual Basic, JavaScript. Possession of a current Queensland Open Driver s Licence.
