3 Drivers Asset Management No formal legislative requirement for an Asset Management program Grant eligibility must show evidence of an established and/or development asset management practices Bottom Line No evidence = Little to no funding In some cases we aren t as effective in tracking the work we do to our assets Really don t know how much we are spending on them In most cases, we don t know how much we should be spending on our assets to operate them at the level of service we want in the most cost-effective manner. 4 Our Journey In 2011, City of Kitchener established a formal Asset Management program to support operational & financial obligations $7 billion+ worth of assets across 12 categories of assets It is a way of doing business in a cost-effective manner that allows that City to keep its assets sustainable over the long term City of Kitchener - Asset Management 4

5 Our Journey In 2014, a strategic committee was formed to address the data management requirements directly in support of the Asset Management program Objectives include: Facilitate the development and maintenance of strategic roadmaps Provide governance and best-practice leadership Provide collaboration and coordination with other Steering Committees City of Kitchener - Asset Management 5
