1 Lean Agile Community of Practice Implementing Scaled Agile February 19, 2018 The Lean Agile Community of Practice focuses on delivering knowledge and providing a virtual networking forum for lean agile practitioners. This includes anyone interested in, working in, or impacted by developments in the collection of good practices, principles and techniques in lean agile project management. 4 Abstract This presentation builds on the presentation from last month, Scaling Agile. We will discuss the basic building blocks for planning and implementing scaled agile. Then explore the hybrid options for organizations that are migrating towards agile, but still rooted in waterfall. Last but not least, demonstrate basic artifacts and tools that may prove useful for organizing and focusing staff towards a common endpoint.

5 SAFe Fundamentals Create SAFe Approach - defines the organizations SAFe approach and IT system Train change agents - assemble a team of zealots to move SAFe deep into the organization s culture Train stakeholders - get these champions up to speed regarding process, terms, expectations, etc. Identify value streams - understand how value will flow from concept to cash, then formulate teams Establish cadence - defines the business rhythm for delivering value Sustain & improve - execute PDCA cycle

9 SAFe Fundamentals - Value Streams Value Stream elements Input - trigger that initiates flow Steps - activities to deliver value to end customer Value - defined by the customer; only meaningful when expressed in terms of a specific product which meets the customer s needs at a specific price at a specific time People & Systems - who conducts steps and what systems are used to flow value Cycle time - the time from input to delivery

13 SAFe Fundamentals - Sustain & Improve Sustain and continuously improve the product, process, and people, including process analysis and tailoring, product feedback methods, reviews, and retrospectives Focus areas may include: Quality - the measure of success is working functionality; minimal viable product (MVP) does not mean sub-standard feature delivery Integration - try to eliminate waste from processes by performing continuous improvement activities, e.g. automated testing Evaluation - engage end users to ensure value is being delivered as expected; watch for gold plating Collaboration - use tools to effectively integrate communication, scope development and control, monitor performance, etc.
