1 Software Announcement March 26, 2002 IBM TotalStorage Expert Delivers Extensive Productivity Enhancements for Managing Enterprise Storage Server Overview The IBM TotalStorage Expert gathers and presents information that can help storage administrators significantly in managing storage resources. It consists of two component features: Enterprise Storage Server Expert (ESS Expert) and Enterprise Tape Library Expert (ETL Expert). They are available separately but are packaged together because they run on the same server, share a common database, and offer a common look and feel. In V2.1, the ESS Expert component has been significantly enhanced. This component now has: LUN to host disk mapping providing complete information on the logical volumes including the physical disks and adapters from the host perspective Customization and enablement capability for threshold events relating to ESS performance metrics including disk utilization Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) alerts for ESS exception events that exceed threshold values for key performance metrics Support for Windows 2000 servers Enhanced usability characteristics These enhancements can help increase the productivity of storage administrators by giving them the ability to plan for and manage ESS storage configurations for performance optimization and workload balancing. This, in turn, enhances ESS productivity so it can deliver optimum results for your application needs. 2 Description IBM TotalStorage Expert helps storage administrators boost the productivity of storage resources. It gathers and presents information that helps administrators significantly in managing the Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) and three Enterprise Tape Library (ETL) solutions: IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Automated Tape Library, IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server, and IBM TotalStorage Peer-to-Peer Virtual Tape Server. IBM TotalStorage Expert has two available features, the ESS feature which supports ESS and the ETL feature which supports the three Enterprise tape library products. The two features are licensed separately. There is also a capability, using the Software Maintenance After License features, for users of StorWatch Expert V1 with either the ESS or the ETL feature, or both, who want to upgrade to TotalStorage Expert V2.1. The ESS feature and the ETL feature both provide capabilities for performance management, asset management, and capacity management. The information provided within these categories varies significantly because of the different characteristics of disk and tape products, and are described in separate sections in order to differentiate them clearly. IBM TotalStorage Expert for Enterprise Storage Server Performance Management: IBM TotalStorage ESS Expert feature gathers performance information from the ESS and stores it in a relational database. Administrators can generate and view reports of performance information to help them make informed decisions about volume placement and capacity planning, as well as identify ways to improve ESS performance. Performance information is gathered over intervals of time. The information is summarized in reports that can include: Number of I/O requests for the entire storage server in total and separated among various physical disk groupings Read and write cache hit ratio Cache to/from disk operations (stage/destage) Disk read and write response time Disk utilization Storage administrators can use this information to determine ways to improve ESS performance, make decisions about where to allocate new space, and identify time periods of heavy usage. SNMP Alerts: ESS Expert provides a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent to send an alert to a SNMP management application when an exception event occurs. The thresholds described below should trigger an SNMP alert when the threshold value is exceeded. Additionally, the ability to enable or disable the SNMP alert delivery for each ESS threshold setting is provided. Thresholds Customization ESS Expert provides the following thresholds customization support: Allow you to modify/customize the warning and critical values of ESS Expert thresholds Allow you to selectively enable or disable each threshold setting Set the threshold for number of DASD Fast Write CCWs that encounter NVS full condition Asset Management: When administrators have to manage multiple storage servers, it can be quite time consuming to track all the server names, microcode levels, model numbers, and trends in growth. With the asset management capabilities of the IBM TotalStorage ESS Expert feature you can: Discover (in the enterprise network) all of the ESS storage systems, and identify them by serial number, name, and model number Identify the number of clusters and expansion features on each Track the microcode level of each cluster This information can save administrators time in keeping track of their storage hardware environment. Capacity Management: The IBM TotalStorage ESS Expert feature provides information that storage administrators can use in capacity management. Information includes: Storage capacity, including Storage assigned to application servers Storage which is free space Capacity assigned to each application server, capacity shared with other application servers, and the names and types of each application server which can access that ESS A view of volumes-per-host, which lists the volumes accessible to a particular SCSI- or Fibre Channel-attached host, for each ESS A volume capability which provides information about a particular volume, and identifies all the application server hosts which can access it Trends and projections of total, assigned, and free space over time for each ESS In the capacity management report, ESS Expert provides the view of capacity distribution and host connectivity. The logical volumes information, in the form of volume serial number, for each host attached to the ESS storage server is also provided. For TotalStorage Expert V2.1, there is new correlation between the logical volume serial number and the disk name on the host operating system. This is provided with the support of ESS logical volume to host disk mapping. The following information is provided for each logical volume attached to a host: The name of each Subsystem Device Driver (SDD) device For each physical I/O path to the ESS logical volume: Adapter name on the host server (for example, /dev/scsi5 in AIX) Disk name on the host server (for example, /dev/hdisk1 in AIX) Volume Data Management: Application Server (Host) level volume information will be tied to ESS level volume information for those servers which have installed a new stand-alone SDD Server (available on the TotalStorage Expert Web site). The Expert gathers host-volume data from these open systems hosts, and presents this information in various ways, such as a report about a group of multiple volumes, or a report for a single volume which can be linked via a filter and hyperlinked to recent ESS performance statistics for that volume

3 IBM TotalStorage Expert User Interface Capabilities IBM TotalStorage Expert uses a discovery process to identify configuration interfaces to storage hardware which are located on your intranet. You can then launch these storage management user interfaces by clicking on an item on the Expert screen. This means you do not have to leave the IBM TotalStorage Expert console environment when invoking these tools to do the related storage management tasks. Administrators benefit from being able to accomplish a broad spectrum of storage management tasks from a single user console. All of these capabilities are important to help you increase the benefit you receive on your storage product investment. For this reason, IBM recommends that IBM TotalStorage Expert be used with ESS and the ETL products it supports. IBM Total Storage Expert includes a Web-based user interface which allows client access. The Web-based interface is designed to operate with the following programs: Netscape Communicator 4.73 on Windows 2000, Windows NT Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 for Windows 2000, Windows NT Compatibility: The ETL feature of IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 is compatible with the ETL feature of StorWatch Expert V1.2 and does not offer any added function over what is in StorWatch Expert V1.2. The ESS feature of TotalStorage Expert V2.1 provides all the capabilities of StorWatch Expert V1.1 and the ESS feature of StorWatch Expert V1.2, and additionally provides all the new capabilities described in this announcement. Upgrading to TotalStorage Expert V2.1 using the appropriate Software Maintenance After License features is the only mechanism for V1 users to migrate their DB2 Universal Database from V5.2 to V7.2. Limitations: IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 runs on either a Windows 2000 or an AIX platform, but the data collected by one platform type is not compatible with, and can not

6 be migrated to, the other platform type. As a result, data collected on a Windows 2000 platform cannot be moved to, or used by, an AIX platform, and vice versa, without the use of IBM DB2 utilities. The IBM TotalStorage Expert program package includes portions of IBM DB2 Universal Database V7.2. Authorization to install and use these components is only in association with licensed use of the IBM TotalStorage Expert for the storage and management of data used or generated by the IBM TotalStorage Expert, and not for other data management purposes. For example, this license does not include inbound connections to the DB2 components from other applications for queries or report generation except for applications accessing the TotalStorage Expert administration data residing in the DB2 database for report generation only and not for other data management purposes. Authorization to install and use these components is only with and on the same server as the IBM TotalStorage Expert program. Performance Considerations: In enterprises that have multiple, large capacity Enterprise Storage Servers installed, performance of the ESS Expert can be enhanced by installing and running it in a distributed environment on multiple servers. A single ESS feature license entitles you to run on multiple servers that examine the same capacity level of storage. Packaging Planning Information The following materials are shipped with IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1: IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 AIX Installation and Migration from V1.1 CD containing: IBM TotalStorage Expert ESS Feature for AIX IBM TotalStorage Expert ETL Feature for AIX IBM TotalStorage Expert services for AIX common to both features IBM Developer Kit for the Java Platform 1.3 for AIX IBM DB2 Universal Database 7.2 WorkGroup IBM HTTP Server for AIX IBM WebSphere Application Server V4.0, Advanced Single Server Edition for AIX Viador Sage 4.2 for AIX IBM TotalStorage Expert License Information IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 for AIX Migration from V1.2 CD containing: IBM TotalStorage Expert ESS Feature for AIX IBM TotalStorage Expert ETL Feature for AIX IBM TotalStorage Expert services for AIX common to both features IBM Developer Kit for the Java Platform 1.3 for AIX IBM DB2 Universal Database 7.2 WorkGroup IBM HTTP Server for AIX IBM WebSphere Application Server V4.0, Advanced Single Server Edition for AIX Viador Sage 4.2 for AIX IBM TotalStorage Expert License Information IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 for Windows 2000 Server CD containing: IBM TotalStorage Expert ESS Feature for Windows 2000 Server IBM TotalStorage Expert ETL Feature for Windows 2000 Server IBM TotalStorage Expert services for Windows 2000 common to both features IBM Developer Kit for the Java Platform 1.3 for Windows 2000 Server IBM DB2 Universal Database 7.2 WorkGroup IBM HTTP Server for Windows 2000 IBM WebSphere Application Server V4.0, Advanced Single Server Edition for Windows 2000 Viador Sage 4.2 for Windows IBM TotalStorage Expert License Information IBM TotalStorage Expert Installation Guide IBM International Program License Agreement and its License Information Proof of Entitlement Because the package contains both of the IBM TotalStorage Expert features, it uses the Secure Distribution Control System (SDCS) for authorization to use the features for which licenses are purchased. 7 Ordering Information IBM TotalStorage Expert V2.1 is a software storage product that has two features which are licensed separately, one feature supports the IBM TotalStorage ESS and the other one supports the three IBM TotalStorage tape libraries products (IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Automated Tape Library, IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server, IBM TotalStorage Peer-to-Peer Virtual Tape Server). One or both features can be installed on a server, with a separate charge for each one. One copy of an ESS feature on one server can support multiple ESS at no additional charge. The same is true for the ETL feature. The ETL feature of the product is charged based on server installs while the ESS features are charged based on the amount of storage managed. The amount of storage managed is broken down into six distinct capacity levels where each capacity level represents a range of capacity. The capacity levels are defined as: Capacity Level 1: Capacity Level 2: Capacity Level 3: Capacity Level 4: Capacity Level 5: Capacity Level 6: 0 TB to 4 TB (including any fraction between 4 TB and 5 TB) 5 TB to 8 TB (including any fraction between 8 TB and 9 TB) 9 TB to 12 TB (including any fraction between 12 TB and 13 TB) 13 TB to 16 TB (including any fraction between 16 TB and 17 TB) 17 TB to 48 TB (including any fraction between 48 TB and 49 TB) 49 TB and above Because charges are only based on the capacity level of storage managed, an ESS feature can be run on multiple servers as long as all servers use Expert to manage the same capacity level. Users of StorWatch Expert V1 can upgrade to TotalStorage Expert V2 by ordering an After License feature of either the one-year (5697-H64) or three-year (5697-H65) Software Maintenance license. The purchase of the Software Maintenance After License provides subscription which extends the original (V1) license to the new (V2) version. It also provides either one or three years of support services and subscription so that you will be entitled to receive future upgrades during that period at no additional charge. Users who have StorWatch Expert V1.1 or V1.2 with the ESS feature only, and want to upgrade to V2 need to order the After License feature of 5697-H64 or 5697-H65 that corresponds to the capacity level of storage they will manage with V2. If you want to add the ETL feature in addition to upgrading to V2 of the ESS feature, you need to order a new license for 5648-TSE with the ETL feature in addition to the After License feature of 5697-H64 or 5697-H65 needed to upgrade the ESS feature. Current users of only the StorWatch Expert V1.2 ETL feature can upgrade to the TotalStorage Expert V2 ETL feature by ordering the one-year (5697-H64) or three-year (5697-H65) After License ETL feature. If you want to add an ESS feature in addition to upgrading to V2 of the ETL feature, you need to order a new license for 5648-TSE with the appropriate capacity level of ESS feature in addition to the After License feature of 5697-H64 or 5697-H65 needed to upgrade the ETL feature. Users who currently have StorWatch Expert V1.2, and are using both the ESS feature and the ETL feature, can upgrade by purchasing both the ETL After License feature of 5697-H64 or 5697-H65 and the appropriate ESS After License feature of 5697-H64 or 5697-H65 for the capacity level of storage that will be managed. Upgrading by ordering the appropriate After License features is the only way current V1 users can migrate IBM DB2 Universal Database from V5.2 to V7.2. Users of the TotalStorage Expert V2.1 ESS feature will need to purchase a Trade-Up feature when they add storage capacity that puts them into a higher capacity level of Expert-managed storage. There are a total of six Trade-Up features corresponding to the combinations of capacity level increases possible. All new orders should specify the program number (5648-TSE) and feature number 5819 for the CD-ROM media as well as the desired quantity and capacity level (for ESS) of ESS and ETL one-time charge (OTC) feature numbers. Orders for ESS trade ups to a higher level of managed capacity should specify the program number (5648-TSE) and the OTC feature number of the appropriate Trade-Up feature. Orders to upgrade StorWatch Expert V1 to TotalStorage Expert V2 should specify the one or three year Software Maintenance program number (5697-H64 or 5697-H65) and feature number 5809 for the CD-ROM media as well as the desired quantity and (for ESS) capacity level of ESS and ETL After License OTC feature numbers.
