2 The smart grid vendor landscape is undergoing a period of change. In developed countries in North America and Europe, markets are maturing and vendors are consolidating. Several of the larger vendors now offer integrated solutions throughout the smart metering value chain, while communications and data analytics providers are increasingly active across multiple smart grid Emerging Markets Smart Grid: Vendor Analysis (!" Meanwhile, in emerging market countries across Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, the Middle East & North Africa, and Southeast Asia, the market is just beginning to take off. Dozens of local vendors have begun to serve smart grid projects, both on their own and as partners of larger international firms. With high growth rates projected for smart grid projects in emerging market countries, this represents the next frontier of vendor activity and opportunity. The dynamics between growing and consolidating international smart grid vendors and smaller, more fragmented local players will help shape the speed and direction of smart grid deployments across the globe. This study takes a comprehensive look at over 400 smart grid vendors from around the world that are active in 35 different emerging market countries. Many of the larger players already have a presence in emerging markets and view these countries as their next avenue for growth. But a more limited number of these vendors have actively developed smart grid projects in emerging markets, and in many cases overall development is still nascent.!"#$%&'()('*+,-%'&.&%#"/#'.+%0&1'2.+%1'#%"3'+45$"2"6-/2' 3.HK1/"-L"H141/@<;"0.74-H1/7"MCN" O>>" >./67@6" :6D<"PH1/@06" C>3P",>"P7@6",-.45"PL/@06"!"#$%&'(")"*'%&'()#*+",-.#/"$(/)#*,('*%$(0"&$1*/(!"#$%##"&'(#)*+,('+"-(.+/01$,#( 2&3/431-("&(#)*441+(.+/01$,#(!1314/."&'(4*+'1+(.+/01$,#( :1;1<=" F#G!!!" $!!"J"#G!!!" Over 160 vendors based in emerging markets are assessed in this report and are well positioned to move into the smart grid market. Of these, over 40 already have experience and know- how in some form of smart grid activity. Local vendors are well represented in all regions, and offer varying levels of experience and know- how.!"#$%&'()"$*+&,-*(.$"#/( Smart grid development will differ on a country-

3 by- country basis, and in many cases local vendors are best placed to understand the unique aspects of each market. Therefore, while many international vendors are growing in size and importance, local vendors will play a significant role. They will both collaborate and compete with international vendors in developing a market forecast to reach $66.3 billion in smart metering alone by Key questions addressed in this report: Who are the leading emerging market- based smart grid vendors and where do they have active projects? Which large international smart grid vendors are currently leading in emerging markets? What are their market shares in smart metering?
