PMI EXAM Study Tips & Notes Dawn Zoller April 998

Study Tips Be as involved as possible with the information you are learning: use highlighter pens in different colors read it aloud make notes, rewrite your notes summarize in your own words visualize: make a mental picture use memory association tricks review your summaries before bedtime (it will "sink in" more)

Study Tips (continued) Do a little each day Review the definitions in the glossary of the PMBOK Take lots of breaks when studying (at least one every 0 to 0 minutes) Just prior to the break, review and summarize the material you have just gone over, review again after the break

Test Taking Tips Take the tutorial for the computer test (even if you don't need it) use/test all options to understand how to mark items and go back to specific items use the rest of the time allowed (there is a clock in the upper right corner of the screen) to write down key formulas or other summary notes, phrases, and pictures you have memorized Mark any question you are not reasonably sure of, so you can review later Skip any questions that will take "a while" to figure out or understand - you want to answer all the questions you know first, then go back and spend time on more complex questions

Test Taking Tips (continued) Read all questions at least twice before answering look for words like "NOT" or "ALWAYS" Read all answers, even if you see a correct answer there may be a "more" correct answer Stay calm If you find yourself getting nervous, look away, take a few deep breaths and tell yourself, "I am prepared for this, I will pass!!!"

Learning Maps The following pages contain diagrams, or learning maps, which I drew to help me with the processes in each knowledge area. You are encouraged to draw your own pictures, and/or to add your own notes to them. You learn and remember best when you put things in a format that is "comfortable" to you, using colors that you like, shapes that you like, etc. If these are helpful to you, please use them.
