1 10. Management Reporter Financial Report Writer

2 Overview The purpose of this section is to demonstrate the financial report writer Microsoft Management Reporter (MR). MR will provide the ability to consolidate both balance sheets and income statements of the reporting entities. In the prototype, a consolidating balance sheet and income statement are demonstrated. For data, journal entries were entered for ASU to provide information on which to report both actual and budget. 2

3 Management Reporter Overview Management Reporter allows users to create quality financial statements. It utilizes the Row-Column-Tree concept where one row layout can be created and used on multiple reports. For example, one row layouts can be created for an income statement providing Revenues, direct costs, contribution margin and overhead expenses to calculate net income. Then, the row format can be used with various different column layouts to create a monthly trend income statement, a month and year to date income statement, a budget to actual comparison income statement, a department income statement, etc. Trees can be used like organizational charts and then report on a department, a group of departments, a division, product line or total company without creating individual reports for each. From the report, either the web view or the report viewer screen, drill down abilities allow the user to drill down to the source documents. The following pages will demonstrate these options. 3

5 Web Viewer MR will also send reports to a web viewer giving the recipient ability to drill down, export to excel, print, etc. directly from the web. MR software is not required. 5

10 Management Reporter Report Definitions BS02- Current Month BS defines what information is used for the report. What company, period, row, column, etc. will be used for the report. Row and Column layouts used 10

23 Report Definitions There are many options and settings to creating a report The following screens will show the Report screen tabs and briefly describe them. Report tab Output and Distribution Headers and Footers Settings 23

25 Report Definitions Output and Distribution Tab Controls were reports are stored on the Network. Option could be a SharePoint site in a web View to automate financial package distribution. Also has settings on how report is converted to Excel. 25

Can be configured to be changed based on company or department generated. Making the heading relational, they automatically update depending on report parameters. 26

29 Reporting Tree Definition Trees are the key to providing relevant financial information to all responsibility centers of an organization. For this demo, only one subaccount (department) was shown. However, using Reporting Trees, reports and be ran for individual departments, groups of departments, or product lines, depending on how subaccounts are utilized. The following screens show examples of trees and possible consolidation report. 29

33 Other Report Controls Report Groups Ability to create Groups of reports such as a board packet to include multiple reports. Balance Sheet Income Statement Monthly Trend Month and YTD Consolidated Cash Flow Statement By running one Group, all reports are created at once. 33
