3 1 Development Trend Metering, charging, user management, and line loss have been major concerns of utility. In the past, due to the lack of effective communication measures, employees had to go to households to collect meter data once a month. Problems including inaccurate metering, ineffective power theft prevention, long charging period, and inaccurate line loss calculation often occurred, causing high O&M costs of utility. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) provides utility with smart metering solution based onbidirectional highspeed communication. AMI reads data on remote electrical meters and realizes real-time charging.it also effectively prevents electricity theft through a complete user management system and analyzes line loss statistics to achieve highly efficient operation. 2 As a world-leading information and communication solution provider, Huawei has accumulated rich experiences in the ICT field. Based on its experiences in the electric power field, and PLC-IoT which is conforming to the IEEE P standard, Huawei launches the AMI solution to implement intelligent meter reading, analyze line loss, and enhance interaction between utility and users. The solution improves user experience, power supply quality, and O&M efficiency, and reduces O&M costs. 2.1 Solution Architecture is based on IoT technologies and open architectures. Huawei with partners provides an E2E solution. The solution provides the terminal layer, network layer, platform layer, and application layer. Terminals and application software are provided by partners, and network communication and management&control component are provided by Huawei. Terminal &Metering layer: includes smart electricalmeters and Data Concentrator Units (DCUs). Besides traditional meter reading, smart electrical meters also provide data communication. Electrical metersuse communication modesin different scenarios, for example, GPRS backhaul, aggregation to the DCU through RS485, Huawei Broadband PLC(PLC-IoT), or RF, and backhaul through the DCU.

4 Network layer: provides communication between the DCU and the platform layer. It offers wireless and wired networks in different regions under different scenario, for example, xpon and MSTP networks and 3G network, meeting diversified requirements of customers. Management Control layer: Management Control component provides standard data collection and control service and interface for application, including:interface management, security management, log management, fault management, operation monitoring, device management,device data collection and control service management, etc. Application layer: is the power operation system. Based on electrical meter data provided by the platform layer, it provides advanced applications, such as prepayment, charging, customer relationship management (CRM), and line loss analysis. 5 2.2 Key Features 1. Flexible Configuration and Complete Coverage in Different Meter Reading Scenarios Abundant electrical meter types: Supports metering in different scenarios such as residential users, industrial users, commercial users, and gateways of transformer district. Flexible installation: Supports separated and centralized installation, installation using guide rails and wall installation. Various communication modes: Supports PLC-IoT, RS485, RF and GPRS backhaul. 2. Innovative Technology Realizing High-speed Data Collection World-leading broadband PLC (PLC-IoT) at the application layer provides the rate larger than 2 Mbit/s, which is 20 times higher than the rate of narrowband PLC, and has conformed to the IEEE P standard. The daily metering success rate is improved from 80% to100%, realizing real-time and bidirectional communication. The technology meets the full-data-collection and full-fee-control requirements of the future intelligent grid, and helps utility to explore business growth opportunities in home IoT. The DCU integrates routing, firewall, and VPN functions, provides data encryption, ensures data security, and can be used for power distribution automation, realizing power distribution and assumption integration. The solution provides visual management on network-wide devices, supports remote upgrade of meters and DCUs, and realizes highly efficient O&M. 3. Open Architecture, Helping Utility to Increase Revenues Huawei open AMI architecture integrates electricity value-added services and improves electricity operation efficiency. Supports line loss analysis and electricity theft prevention technology, and reduces losses of utility. Supports prepayment and collects electricity fees two months in advance.

6 2.3 AMI Solution Benefits 1. Reduce labor and operation cost Automatic data reading and remote control will avoid manual wrong operation, improving accuracy rate of meter data collection, and reduce labor cost and operation cost. 2. Speed up the collection of electricity charge Provide two kinds of prepayment modes including STS local prepayment and online prepayment, pay before consumption shorten 2 months bill periods, to maximize margins and cash flow. 3. Monitor electricity power theft Detect, analyze, and identify attempts or actions for power theft by E2E solution. As a result, AMI solution will help restrain power theft and reduces economic losses. 4. Improve customer satisfaction Multiple remainder fee ways (SMS, , telephone, smart phone APP) and forms of payment (website, mobile phone, bank, scratch card, POS, remote recharge), user-friendly, greatly improving customer satisfaction. 2.4 Key Scenarios also provides electric power operation services, which meet electric power customer s requirement.
