2 Description System i Temporary Software License offers you the option to purchase a software license for temporary use of a System i, eserver i5, iseries, or AS/400 machine. The license is a lower-cost option for clients who have a temporary need to license programs and options when operating a machine. Reasons for temporary licensing may include: You acquire a replacement machine and need to run both the original and replacement machine concurrently for more than 15 days to facilitate the migration of your applications and test the replacement machine. You have a temporary need to operate a machine for 12 months or less and require licensing for licensed programs or options. If you purchase a new System i machine and transfer your license entitlements from an existing machine, you are allowed a temporary use period for the existing machine of 15 days. If extended use is required, you must purchase a temporary license. You can use the System i Temporary Software License to temporarily license the IBM software on a machine. You can purchase the licenses with a one-time charge in monthly increments of one to 12 months. If more than 12 months of use is anticipated, a standard license is required. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems.
