2 Financial modelling Businesses seeking capital are faced with an obligation to provide financial projections to potential stakeholders. Growing businesses may not have the internal resources to create financial projections in the form of a bespoke and dynamic financial model as this is a specialised area of finance. However, the ability to provide a well-built dynamic financial model can make a company more investable and shorten the investment process, on the basis that the underling business model is sound. Operating models with 3 to 5 year projections Valuation models Working capital and bank facility reviews At Moore Stephens, we support you by designing and providing the best-in-class bespoke financial models for clients, to help forecast performance, improve accuracy and allow sensitivity analysis. We work with business owners directly, but are also recommended by investors and advisors to ensure everyone within the fundraising process can make informed decisions based on reliable data. 3 Working with business owners With growing companies who are looking to continue their investment fundraising, business owners need to make a decision on what their future holds and where they are going next. To do this, you need financial projections with which to build a forecast for yourself as well as your investors. Outsourcing this is the most effective way to ensure you can predict and monitor your performance, particularly as the complexities of creating a business model increase as you grow, diversify and need to source alternative funding. You may not have the time or resources to create this in-house, and a downloaded off-the-shelf model is likely not to cover everything you need as a unique business. Financial modelling is a key requirement for raising capital, whether that be a bank, venture capitalist firm or private equity investor. This provides much more than just statements and spreadsheets. We get to know your business and your future plans before creating the model, and the accompanying memorandum provides a narrative of where you intend to get to with your business. Many of our models are used not only for one-off transactions but by clients for operational monitoring of their businesses. Corporate Finance 2

4 Working with investors and advisors Advisors and investors may recommend our services to provide their clients with an independent and trusted source to ensure running the numbers works for all involved. Of course, we work directly with the client and get to know their needs independent of the pressures from investors or other advisors. We also provide services to check models that have been created in-house by the client or, in case of private equity firms, to provide a second opinion for their clients. For advisors and investors, we provide comfort in our independence, experience, integrity, accuracy of formulae and overall quality. 3 Corporate Finance

6 Our experience Case study Case study Project 180 We began by advising the client on fund raising and, after arranging a meeting with a potential investor, the client was asked to provide a financial model. The client had previously used an online service to create their financial model which did not meet the requirements of the investor. We were engaged by the client to build a financial model that would suit the purposes of the investor. We took approximately 35 hours to build a fully functional dynamic model which was then provided to the investor. The feedback was very positive from both the investor and the client, and the investor offered a term sheet to the client shortly after the model was provided. Project Harbour We were engaged by the client to prepare an evaluation, financial model and business plan a company looking to raise finance. The financial model replicated the pricing model for an industry match and had many customisable features for pricing, customer throughput, operating costs and capex. The output was based on IFRS financial statements and took approximately 60 hours to build, which was some five hours below the original budget. 5 Corporate Finance
