2 Motivation Manufacturing of products becoming increasingly complex and needs flexibility due to greater diversity of product use and product portfolios, demand for more customised products and shorter time-to-market requirements Currently, product use and product production activities are often separated leading to low efficiency and high costs for both users and manufacturers Optimisations are needed to address these problems Some optimisations can be carried out by adjusting production control parameters while others require reconfiguration of products SAFIRE Project Partners SAFIRE Project Oveview 2

4 Project Objectives Methodology for reconfiguration and optimisation of products and factories based on predictive big-data analytics Emphasising security, privacy & trust based on situational awareness Will address technical and organisational issues for extension and introduction of tools/services for reconfiguration and optimisation of factories / products Set of tools and services to support: Dynamic and predictable reconfiguration and optimisation Predictive big data analytics Cloud resource management Cloud-based secure infrastructure for reconfiguration and optimisation The envisaged SAFIRE infrastructure will be an add-on for existing production systems or next generation smart factory operating system Transforms traditional production systems into advanced systems capable of real-time reconfiguration and optimisation SAFIRE Project Partners SAFIRE Project Oveview 4

7 Technical Objectives Two related technology challenges for factories of the future creating new opportunities for improving production, products and services: Interconnected Systems of Production Systems (SoPS) in manufacturing where individual production systems and SoPS have hardware and software requirements to achieve specific business objectives Connected Product Networks (CPNs) where networked smart products collect data, can be adapted in the field, and can deliver extended services to customers through optimisation of smart products E.g. performance parameters, customisation of products to environments, usage patterns, etc. A key objective is to develop cloud-based analytics and reconfiguration capabilities with: Reactive and predictive reconfiguration for both production systems and smart products Flexible run-time reconfiguration decisions during production rather than preplanned at production planning time Real-time reconfiguration decisions for optimisation of performance and realtime production and product functions SAFIRE Project Partners SAFIRE Project Oveview 7

8 Some relations to previous projects Self-Learning The project explored how context awareness can be used to assure both self-adaptation of production systems, with integrated control & maintenance, and quality of software services implementing self-adapting solutions ProSEco The objective is to provide a novel methodology and a comprehensive ICT solution for collaborative design of product-services and their production processes DreamCloud Addressed dynamic resource allocation in many-core embedded and high performance systems while providing appropriate guarantees on performance and energy efficiency JUNIPER Created a Java Platform that can support a range of high performance Big Data driven application domains that seek real-time processing of streaming data, or real-time access to stored data SAFIRE Project Partners SAFIRE Project Oveview 8
