Exploration and Production (E&P) data is used in many different ways in our daily tasks, ranging from screening for new farm-in opportunities to analysing the full gas supply chain, but always providing a solid base for further analysis and for making balanced decisions. The IHS International E&P Database is the most comprehensive and reliable dataset available to oil and gas industry professionals today. Our data is controlled in a unique relation data model (IRIS21) that provides a fully integrated data area with over 13,000 E&P data attributes. Such a fully integrated model allows the combination of many different attributes, some of which are provided in the example below. Example of Integrated Databases 5

Data quality is ensured and quality checked at multiple levels. The E&P Database can be accessed directly from your desktop or server, your intranet or the Internet via IHS EDIN-GIS and IHS Enerdeq Desktop software applications. It can also be accessed through your in-house applications with data regularly loaded onto your proprietary server through data delivery tools like the Application Data Model (ADM) and Frequent Data Update software. Using the International E&P Database allows your organisation to thoroughly review the hydrocarbon prospects and feasibility of a project. 9 Geology, E&P Data Integrated and Accessible in Modules to Aid Workflow Although the database is fully integrated and many elements can be found under various headings (e.g., a company under concessions, seismic survey, well or field), the database is composed of the following main modules: Basin Module a comprehensive study of petroleum and plays for more than 450 basins worldwide to assess hydrocarbon potential and exploration opportunities Concessions Module includes open areas, bid blocks, exploration acreage and production concessions, with full information on the various contract stages and company participation Geophysical Surveys Module although a large part contains seismic acquisitions, other surveys like magnetic and gravimetric ones are included. The module contains a spatial presentation of seismic lines shot Well Module data includes the drilling history and available information on tested intervals and stratigraphic tops. Location data includes details on the projection system and datum to allow correct transformation into WGS84 coordinates Discovery & Field Module the most comprehensive worldwide database of discoveries with reservoir details and reserves, planned and actual field development and annual and monthly production figures 7

13 Basin Data A Unique and Comprehensive Knowledge Base IHS offers the largest set of basin studies and related geological data for a worldwide analysis of petroleum systems and plays. The description of the more than 450 basins in the database is compiled from multiple public and private sources that have been collected for decades, forming a unique dataset. Integrated with E&P data it allows comprehensive analysis of existing reserves and opportunities for future exploration. No other database offers this unique aspect, making any analysis more valuable than just the geological interpretation. As all data is available in standard database format, comparative and analogue studies are easily undertaken using IHS GIS software like EDIN-GIS and Enerdeq Desktop, or can be printed in easy-to-read standard paper format of a Basin Monitor. 15 The Basin database is organised around the following main study areas: Basin Evolution With the geological description of the development of the various stratigraphic sequences (genetic units) Petroleum Systems Combining details of the potential and proven source rocks with Plays that give detailed (lithostratigraphic) description of reservoirs, seals and traps. Integrated with the reservoir description in the Field database, the play definition offers a unique dataset to determine the real potential of producing or prospective plays. This is the only dataset in the world that allows reserves distribution, risk analysis and Yet-To-Find analysis on the play level Exploration, Development and Production History Summarises past activity and success, helping to evaluate opportunities and risks for future exploration in the basin Images Like stratigraphic charts, tectonic, structural and stratigraphic distribution maps, geological cross-sections and representative well log or seismic sections help to quickly understand the main characteristics of the basin Basic Geological Layers Of structural elements (major fault zones), oceanic features like wrench faults, oceanic magnetic anomalies and salt domes assist to map geological trends 13

19 Concession Data The Importance of Historic Data to Get the Full Picture The Concession database contains over 50,000 concession contracts with some 70,000 different blocks. About half of these concessions are historical ones, an important aspect of the database. Not only is the current acreage position with an operator important but so are the entire history and analysis of success of operations. All different stages from application and award to partial relinquishment with all company interest changes are recorded in the database. This is the only database that can go back a hundred years to reveal the real success in an area. The example below shows the major changes in the concession acreage during the last ten years. The map to the left shows the 2008 concession situation, the central map the concession situation in 1998, and the map to the right the acreage in which company A had an interest in 1998 (operated or not). Blocks held by Company A in 1998 Concession Situation 2008 Concession Situation 1998 Information on the some 35,000 companies includes not only operating companies but all participating companies with local subsidiaries in E&P concessions. This is important as many companies operate under different subsidiaries in various countries. As companies merge or are acquired by other companies, it is of paramount importance to understand the exact company structure and interests (e.g., to evaluate the reserves or production history of a parent company). 17

23 Geophysical Surveys Data Efficient Planning for Future Acquisitions The Geophysical Survey database contains worldwide data on some 43,300 geophysical surveys including 2D, 3D and 4D seismic, gravimetric and magnetic surveys. This database contains all basic information including the survey date, area or concession block, operator, contracted seismic company, crew or vessel, the number of kilometers shot, gravimetric or magnetic stations and acquisition details like energy source or CDP fold. A basic center point of the survey is provided. The data allows quick screening of surveys shot in an area and analysis of vintage and service companies to scan opportunities for data acquisition. In addition to the basic information for scanning purposes, more detailed seismic acquisition data is provided as 2D shotpoint lines and 3D coverage areas, both onshore and offshore. More than 230,000 2D lines with a total of 6.5 million kilometers and 2,000 3D areas with a total coverage of over 1.6 million km 2 are available. In addition to the location of the lines and areas information on the type of survey (spec, exclusive), acquisition dates, contractor companies and data quality is provided for a quick analysis of potential seismic acquisition sources in a specific area. 21

27 Well Data Exploring Tops and Tests With more than 580,000 international wells, IHS provides the largest data set on exploration, appraisal and development wells. Apart from basic information such as the operators and partners that drilled the well, the spud and completion dates and the type of well, IHS provide detailed information on: drilling history with drilled depths versus time and information about drilling problems like stuck pipe or the sidetracks with kick-off depths objective formation(s) and lithology total depth and TVD with bottom-hole formation and lithology formation tops with geological age and lithology tested intervals with geological formation and lithology, choke sizes, flow rates and pressures images of relevant logged sections (e.g., from the composite log over a tested interval) Applications of a complete well dataset are multi-faceted, from analysing drilling success ratios for different well categories or mapping well tops and evaluating test results. In addition to the surface location, well deviation paths and bottom-hole locations are available as shown on the map below. 25

28 International Exploration & Production Database Exact well location data is extremely important and much time has been dedicated by IHS researchers to find the correct projection system and coordinate datum for each well. The result is a comprehensive database of well locations of over 230 projection systems and 930 different datum shifts with the latest EPSG version 6.7 transformations to provide location data in WGS84 format. Well locations are provided as both a spatial layer with the original datum and as a WGS84 layer to allow the user to select the type of coordinate projection hat best fit their purpose. 26

31 Discoveries & Field Data More than 24,600 discoveries have been described in detail in the Discoveries and Fields database. This is the most comprehensive database with a total of almost 51,500 reservoirs described by its main characteristics like: Reservoir depth and thickness, hydrocarbon column and Gas-Oil-Water contacts Lithology, porosity, permeability, water saturation, GOR, salinity Reservoir age, depositional environment, play type Trap type and seal, fluid and drive system, reservoir pressure and temperature Hydrocarbon composition like oil type and gravity, gas composition, contaminants like sulphur, nitrogen, CO2, etc. Oil, gas and condensate reserves with in-place and recoverable figures by reservoir Some 10,300 of the discoveries are currently producing and 1,870 fields have been abandoned. For these fields, in addition to the detailed reservoir description above, the following information is available: Details of operator and partner interests Discovery and drilling history Field development scheme and description Platform information like type, height, weight, slots Cost estimates of development, service contractor information Well statistics: number of producing oil/gas wells, injectors, depleted wells Annual production Reserves history of in-place and recoverable reserves with a breakdown in proven, probable and possible reserves 29

33 Monthly production data forms part of the Discoveries & Field database. In addition to the 20,500 annual production figures, the monthly database contains a total number of 1,481,901 volumes. Monthly figures in particular can help to better understand the field history. For example, periods of reduced production because of workovers, or seasonal variation in supply (DCQ) are shown in the example from the North Sea below. 31

37 Data Delivery Geological, E&P Data Delivered in an Easy Way for Multiple Applications It is of paramount importance that you not only get the best information but in formats that allow you easy access for finding an answer, that help you make quick decisions or that load data into your own projects. IHS has developed different data delivery platforms to access, analyse or download data: Internet access through EDIN-GIS for analysing E&P data and viewing the latest bid round blocks or newly spudded wells, and analysing basins. EDIN-GIS also allow you to generate standard spreadsheets or create your own format to download information. Spatial information can be downloaded in multiple formats from CAD to Shape to Z-files Enerdeq Desktop provides access to the data through DVDs loaded into a comprehensive GIS desktop system. Spatial and attribute data can easily be copied into spreadsheets or loaded into other GIS systems Multiple solutions exist for direct access to the data through hosted solutions like Web Services, Frequent Data Updates or Spatial Layers for in-house relational and spatial data serves Whatever your project requires, IHS can deliver the data to you in the most convenient way to allow you to get the information quickly, consistently and in an easy-to-use format. 35
