EPU stands for Elastomeric Polyurethane High performance, PVC free polyurethane High levels of tear strength, energy return, and elongation WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PU (POLYURETHANE) AND PVC (VINYL)? PU is a composite material made of one or more layers of PU and a woven or nonwoven textile backing More breathable than PVC Adjusts to body temperature more quickly Its naturally rubbery characteristic guarantees a better stretch, recovery and performance in low temperatures PU is known to be a greener alternative to PVC in both production and after-care WHAT IS HYDROLYSIS RESISTANCE? Hydrolysis Resistance is a measure for polyurethane fabrics. Commonly known as the Jungle Test, the test evaluates hydrolysis resistance of polyurethane upholsteries ability to withstand exposure to extended periods of heat and humidity. The result of passing is determined when visual evaluation shows no cracking, peeling or delamination for 5 weeks. Endurance EPU has met a significantly higher result of 15 weeks. WHAT IS PLASTICISER MIGRATION? Plasticisers are chemicals added to vinyl upholstery (PVC) to make them softer and more flexible. The plasticisers migrate from vinyl trying to return to its natural state. This migration process makes the vinyl upholstery stiff and ultimately crack. Aging, heat, sunlight, body oils and harsh cleaners accelerate the process. Endurance EPU has no PVC therefore there are no plasticisers like vinyl upholstery.
