1 ADCO Waterstop (Rearguard R) is the profile designed for external installation to construction / contracting joints. ADCO Waterstop (Rearguard S) is the profile designed for external installation to expansion joints. ADCO Waterstop (Dumbell) is the profile designed for internal installation to construction / contracting joints. ADCO Waterstop (Centrebulb) is the profile designed for internal installation to expansion joints. External PVC Waterstop profiles : ADCO Waterstop and 2 Proven design developed specifically for water excluding and retaining structures. Flexible aommodates movement during installation and service life. Pilable even at low temperatures. External seal anti-corrosion protection of steel reinforced at water face. Extended water path multiple ribs provide extended water path and back-up if ADCO Waterstop 841 shifts during installation. Nailing flange simplifies fastening. Stabilizing flange prevents rib displacement and folding during concreting. USES ADCO Waterstop 841 is designed to provide integral, waterproof sealing of movement and construction joints in the following types of in-situ : Water retaining Reservoirs, water towers and sewage tanks Dams, spillways, canals and culverts Swimming pools Bunded areas surrounding liquid retaining areas Water excluding Basement structures and underground parking areas Tunnels and subways Abutments and retaining walls Roof decks and podium areas Waterproofing of basements and sub-structures ADCO Waterstop 841 (1 and 2) is a special external, PVC Waterstop system for use in reinforced and is manufactured in a range of sizes. To be effective, Waterstops must form a continuous network at all joints to prevent the ingress of water / moisture. It is vital to use factory-produced intersections for changes of direction of profile. On-site jointing should be limited to simple butt-welds. The external Waterstop system has been designed with multiple T-shaped ribs that ensure solid embedment in-situ concrete and create a valve action to seal the water path. They are designed to suit either horizontal- or vertical applications. Extruded from high-grade polyvinylchloride compounded with first quality plasticizers, ADCO Waterstop 841 is ideal for sealing joints in subject to water pressure. When cast into the outside water face, they prevent the ingress of moisture while protecting the outer layer of reinforcement from corrosion. Locating them on the outside face of a concrete member promotes better compaction of concrete around the T-shaped ribs of the ADCO Waterstop 841 as there is less reinforcement congestion and the weight of wet concrete makes consolidation easier. APPLICATION External placing of waterstops in slabs enables the ADCO Waterstop 841 network to be fixed prior to installation of the reinforcement with simple stop-ends. This helps produce dense concrete free from segregation or honey-combing. The ADCO Waterstop 841 network should be loose laid directly onto the blinding concrete with timer stop-ends, or securely fixed into the vertical shutters using double-headed fasteners staggered at 500 mm cross-centres. A fully-continuous ADCO Waterstop 841 network must be formed using factory-made junctions, with site joints limited to simple butt welds of similar section. Page 1 of 6

2 APPLICATION (cont d ) Typical construction / contraction joint (Rearguard R) Details of separate kicker joint for retaining walls Basement walls can be constructed with plain, stop-end shutters with the external placement of the ADCO Waterstop 841 allowing fixing to take place before reinforcement is installed. Using double-headed fasteners allows formwork to be struck early, as waterstops will not shift during stripping. ADCO Waterstop 841 can also be used for non-suspended slabs in water retaining structures such as reservoirs, swimming pools and sewage treatment tanks. It should not be used externally in walls subject to hydraulic pressure. In water-retaining structures, retaining walls should always have internal ADCO Waterstop 841 cast centrally into the concrete wall to resist the water pressure. TECHNICAL ADVICE AND SUPPORT ADCON provides technical advice and support to comprehensive layouts, estimates and quantities and detailed advice on all aspects of waterproofing to suit your specific needs. NAILING FLANGE ADCO Waterstop 841 (1 and 2) sections are provided with a nailing flange. Special double-headed fasteners are used for wooden shutters. ADCO Waterstop 841 can also be used with steel shuttering, as the weight of the waterstop is carried on tying wires through secura clips and fastened back to the reinforcement. Shot-fired fixings can be used for fastening back to concrete walls, blockwork or masonry. Details of separate kicker joint for retaining walls Vertical L Flat L Flat X Flat T Page 2 of 6

5 ADCO INTERNAL WATERSTOPS ADCO Waterstop and 4 are high performance, internal waterstop systems which have been developed with large solid circular end bulbs for positive embedment in in-situ concrete. The shrinkage of the concrete creates a valve action seal to prevent the passage of water and is suitable for horizontal and vertical applications. They are extruded from specially formulated high-grade polyvinyl compounds with first quality plasticizers ideally suited for sealing critical joints in concrete structures subject to large water pressure or large dynamic movements. Being cast into the centre of the concrete member, ADCO Waterstop will provide resistance against hydrostatic pressure from both faces. ADCO Waterstop is an internally cast specially formulated PVC waterstop system manufactured in a range of sizes for use in reinforced concrete structures. It is essential to form a continuous waterstop network at all joints to prevent the ingress or escape of moisture / water. For changes of direction or profile it is essential to use factory-produced fabrications, with site joining limited to butt welds. APPLICATION Slab Joints : The ADCO Waterstop and 4 should be supported in specially prepared split stop-end formwork which holds the waterstop in the horizontal plane so preventing displacement and folding so that half of its width will be cast into concrete approximately halfway through the thickness of the slab. Care must be taken so that the waterstop is retained in the horizontal plane so that adequate compaction of concrete takes place below the web of the waterstop in order to avoid honeycombing of concrete. Lifting the waterstop during compaction to release entrapped air will assist in forming dense compacted concrete. After stripping the formwork supporting the waterstop, the second half can be cast into the adjoining slab with similar precautions taken with regard to the honeycombing. Wall Joints : The waterstop must be supported in the split-end formwork as described for slab joints, great care taken to ensure that the waterstop does not fold over under the weight of poured concrete. If fully retained fixing is required to prevent folding-over, the waterstop may be securely wired to the reinforcing steel using large secure clips fastened over the end bulbs. A fully continuous waterstop network must be formed using factory junctions with site joints limited to simple butt welds for a similar section.
