3 PART 2 MODULAR MUSIC PRACTICE ROOMS 2.01 Music Practice Rooms Performer E3 Ready Standard Features A. Mechanical Specifications 1. GENERAL: MPRs shall be constructed of prefabricated, modular acoustic panels. No caulking or viscous sealant shall be required to achieve specified acoustic performance. MPR components shall be demountable and capable of being relocated without loss of effectiveness. Electrical, lighting, and ventilation shall be self-contained, requiring only facility electrical service brought to the MPR. 2. ACOUSTIC PANELS: Panels are precision manufactured to all engineering tolerances needed to meet laboratory acoustic performance requirements. Panels shall not require gaskets to compensate for gaps and separations. Wall and ceiling panels shall be four inches (4 ) thick. TYPE 5 panels are constructed of 16 gauge, galvanized-bonderized, cold-rolled steel inner and outer skins. TYPE 2 panels are constructed of 16 gauge solid galvanized-bonderized; cold-rolled steel outer surface and 22 gauge perforated inner surface and contain 1 RA-22, Gypsum board. Perforated inner skins shall have 1/16 diameter holes on 1/8 staggered centers, giving an open area of 22.7%. Panels shall be filled with inert, vermin, and mildew resistant acoustic materials. Panel materials of construction shall not be combustible and shall be laboratory tested in accordance with ASTM-E84MPR roof panel assemblies shall be structurally capable of supporting a live load of 40 psf. 3. JOINERS: Panel joiners and connectors shall employ minimum 16 gauge cold rolled steel joiner sections to seal panel joints. Joiners/connectors shall provide sound absorbing labyrinth and tight mechanical fit. 4. INTERIOR HEIGHT: Shall be 7-6 unless otherwise specified (see options). 5. DOORS: Doors shall be pre-hung, with a 37 wide by 84 1/2 high clear opening and 2 thickness. Doors shall be constructed of materials similar to panels. Doors shall use uninterrupted magnetic seals at head and jamb. Door bottom sealing uses an adjustable 2 inset cavity sealing system. Door hardware shall include positive latch handle (ADA compliant) with a master-keyed classroom function lock, Satin Chrome, interior kick plate, and cam-lift butt hinges. Door threshold shall be tapered stainless steel not to exceed ½ in height. Door shall contain a 29 x 74 double glazed window constructed of ¼ laminated safety glass. Desiccant material shall be installed between windowpanes to prevent condensation. 6. WINDOWS: See DOOR above. 7. FLOOR: None

4 Music Practice Rooms shall be installed in a floor track system that is gasketed to seal the MPR to the facility floor. A means of providing track leveling for floor irregularities up to ¼ shall be provided. The assembled MPR shall meet project acoustic requirement without a specialized flooring system. Floor covering to be by others. Floor upgrades are available. 8. ELECTRICAL: Panels containing light fixtures, outlets, or switches shall be factory pre-wired internal to the panels with ¾ flexible conduit to NEC standards for pre-manufactured buildings. Each unit will be wired for connection to building service via a 12 foot grounded powercord with a hospital grade, male plug, as manufactured by General Electric or approved equal. Owner shall provide 120 volt building electrical service to interface with this plug for each MPR. All electrical components are UL listed. Two (2) recessed duplex 110V outlets, with stainless steel cover plate, shall be provided in interior of each MPR at location specified. 9. LIGHTS: MPRs shall be provided with surface mounted, low profile fluorescent light fixtures to provide a minimum of 80 foot-candles of light. Electronic light ballast shall be UL listed, contain thermal overload protection. One (1) dual switch shall be provided in each MPR for individual control of lighting and ventilation fans (when applicable). Switches shall be mounted recessed in panel with stainless steel cover plates marked LIGHT-FAN. 10. VENTILATION: Fan Powered or HVAC Connected Supply & Return Silencers (intake and outlet) are provided for rooms. Rooms shall be equipped with silencers so as to maintain the acoustic performance. Ventilation silencers shall not exceed 6½ in depth. All ventilation grills shall be installed with tamper proof security screws. Duct liners are natural fiber, formaldehyde/fiberglass free, mold/mildew resistant, LEED eligible, Environmentally safe, IAQ friendly, and have a Class-A fire rating. a. Fan Powered system. Fan systems shall provide a minimum of one complete change of room air every two minutes. ON OFF switch in room. b. HVAC Connected system consists of silencers equipped with 6" duct rings for connection to building's HVAC system. Connections to host HVAC shall be by the project mechanical contractor via 6 diameter flexible ductwork. SPECIAL HVAC NOTE: HVAC, for all construction of Melhart Music booths, refers to air conditioning and not heating. ALL BOOTHS are thermally sealed and require cool air to offset the heat gain inside the booth. Inside the booth there are lights, people and equipment that generate heat, and unless your host environment is over conditioned you will need to add cool air to the room. Please contact your mechanical contractor and discuss an option to add a thermostat to the booth. Melhart Music will provide a j box receptacle to receive the thermostat. You can specify where the thermostat will be mounted inside the booth.

5 When attaching the duct to the Melhart Music silencer (air plenum) be advised that the smaller booths receive a 6 duct ring collar unless noted otherwise. Melhart Music silencers transfer the air into the booth, but it is the customer s responsibility to control the air temperature. 11. ACCESS RACEWAYS: Two (2) 1/2 conduit raceways for signal, warning, or communication access shall be provided in each MPR. Raceway shall terminate to a recessed 4 x 4 junction box inside of the MPR and is accessed from the conduit on the MPR roof. One (1) box will be at 84 AFF (above finished floor) and one (1) drop at 60 AFF. 12. FINISH: All hardware and receptacle cover plates will be of Satin Chrome Stainless Steel Finish. All exposed surfaces will be finished with an electrostatically charged powder coat paint, cross linked in an oven using no polluting VOCs (volatile organic compounds); suitable for all applications. Std. Room color is Platinum (light gray). The Std. accent color for the door frame is Charcoal. (Other Room and Accent colors may be selected from Acoustic Systems color chart). B. E3 Ready - Room is equipped to allow for upgrade or retrofit of Acoustic Systems E3 Electronically Enhanced Environment) without disassembly of room. C. Acoustic Requirements Laboratory noise reduction test data shall be based on the procedures of ASTM E596 and shall be based on the manufacturer s current production unit. Tests shall be conducted in a laboratory certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program for ASTM E596 procedures. Minimum allowable laboratory noise reduction shall be as follows: Laboratory Noise Reduction (NR) Octave Band Center Frequency (Hz) k 2K 4K NIC NR (db) (Host to Module) NR (db) (Module to Host) NR (db) (Module to Module)
