1 SEEDING DIVISION PART RELATED A. Drawings and general provisions ofthe Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections apply to this section. 1.2 SUMMARY 1. Related Work Specified Elsewhere: i. Section Site Preparation ii. Section Earth Moving iii. Section Temporary Storm Water Pollution Control A. Section includes: Seedbed preparation, fertilizing, seeding, and mulching ofrepository area disturbed by construction operations. The Contractor shall seed the repository area according to these Specifications when all contaminated soils have been removed from the yards. Should the Contractor disturb areas outside ofthe defined work areas, such areas shall be repaired and reseeded in accordance with these Specifications at no additional cost to the Owner. B. The Contractor shall perform all necessary site preparation activities prior to completing work described in this section. Sodding activities at a residential property shall not commence until the Resident Project Representative has met with the Contractor and given approval to initiate work. 1.3 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT A. All work in this section required by the Specifications or Plans shall be included in the Contractor's Base Bid Lump Sum contract price. The Base Bid Lump Sum shall include all labor, materials, equipment, tools, and incidentals necessary to complete the work. However, the actual quantity of contaminated soil, subsoil, topsoil, visible barrier, roadstone, seed, mulch, and sod vary from those required by these Specifications or Plans (more or less), the following shall apply to payment. 1. Payment for contaminated soil, subsoil, topsoil, seed, mulch, visible barrier, roadstone, and sod shall be made at the Unit Prices established in the Contractor's bid Proposal Form. 2. Quantities ofcontaminated soil, subsoil, topsoil, and roadstone shall be measured by scale ticket to the nearest ton. 3. Quantities ofvisible barrier material shall be measured to the nearest linear foot of4 feet vertical height ofmaterial. 4. Quantities of seed, mulch and sod shall be measured to the nearest square foot. 5. The Unit Prices established by the Contractor's Bid Proposal Form shall include cost of all labor, materials, tools, equipment, profit, and incidentals necessary to complete the work. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. The Contractor shall provide qualified personnel to conduct inspection ofmaterials, equipment, construction activities, and at completed properties. The Contractor shall ensure that key personnel are familiar with and have access to the specific requirements ofthe contract. B. Field Quality Control: 1. The Resident Project Representative shall ensure that the Contractor follows all seeding specifications and that seed mixes are planted in appropriate areas. The Resident Project Representative shall: i. Ensure all soil amendments and seed meet specification for quantity and quality. H. Ensure all specified seed methods are followed. iii. Ensure all areas are planted and seeded with the appropriate seed mixtures. iv. Ensure all rutted or damaged areas are smoothed, repaired, and seeded. v. Ensure that all seeded areas are mulched according to specifications. 2. Ifthe work or materials do not meet specification, the Contractor shall be responsible to replace material, work or make repairs at no cost to the Owner or time extension to the contract. 1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. The Contractor shall perform seeding only after preceding work affecting ground surface is completed, and areas to be seeded have been approved by the Resident Project Representative. B. Whenever conditions detrimental to plant growth are encountered, such as rocks, adverse drainage conditions or obstructions, the Contractor shall notify the Resident Project Representative prior to seeding. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1. SEED A. Provide fresh, clean new-crop seed complying with rate ofapplication as stated herein. Acceptable seed mixtures and rates ofapplication are as follows. COMMON NAME Tall Fescue Landino Clover Perennial Ryegrass Pounds*/Acre * Pounds seeding application rate in terms ofpure Live Seed per 1000 square feet or Acre. SEEDING

3 A. FERTILIZER MULCH A. Mulch shall consist of straw, wheat or oats. PART 3 - JL4.L,..JL SITE A. The Contractor shall provide materials, equipment, and labor necessary such that final ground surfaces are smooth and allow for adequate drainage, and adequate vegetation. B. When conditions are such by reason ofdrought, excessive moisture or when in the opinion ofthe Resident Project Representative less than satisfactory results are likely to be obtained, seeding work shall be halted as directed by the Resident Project Representative and resumed only when conditions are favorable or when approved alternative or corrective measures and procedures have been enacted. 3.2 SEED BED PREPARATION A. Undulations or irregularities in the surface shall be leveled out. B. The Contractor shall employ BMPs at the repository to prevent erosion. The Contractor shall replace and re-grade any lost soil due to erosion prior to or during the re-vegetation period. 3.3 FERTILIZATION A. All disturbed areas shall receive a fertilizer application of 1 pound ofnitrogen, 2 pounds of actual Phosphorus (P20S), and 2 pounds of actual Potash (K20) per 1000 square feet. 3.4 SEED MAINTENANCE A. The Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining the revegetated repository (including watering) for a period of 30 days after seeding with exception noted in D. below. B. At 30 days after seeding, the Contractor and the Resident Project Representative shall inspect the repository to observe and photo document the conditions ofthe seeded areas. The Resident Project Representative will determine ifthe area is adequately revegetated based on a satisfactory cover of living grass and in which gaps larger than 9 square inches (3 inches by 3 inches) do not occur. The Contractor shall revegetate areas where the Resident Project Representative determines that maintenance is required. C. At 60 days after seeding, the Contractor and the Resident Project Representative shall inspect the repository to observe and document the conditions ofthe seeded areas. The Resident Project Representative will determine ifthe area is adequately revegetated based on a satisfactory cover of living grass and in which gaps larger than 9 square inches (3 inches by 3 inches) do not occur. Section includes: Soil preparation and application ofsod in all designated areas ofthe residential yards disturbed by construction operation. The Contractor shall sod all designated areas according to these Specifications. Should the Contractor disturb areas outside ofthe defined work areas, such areas shall be repaired and sodded in accordance with these Specifications at no additional cost to the Owner. Roadstone may be applied in some areas in lieu ofsod at the request ofthe residential property owner, but only with the approval ofthe Resident Project Representative. B. The Contractor shall perform all necessary site preparation activities prior to completing work described in this section. Water dry soil to depth of4-inches 48-hours before placing sad 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Transplant sad within 24-hours ofharvesting. B. Begin sodding at bottom of slopes. C. Lay first row of sad in straight line with long dimension ofpads parallel to slope contours. D. Butt side and end joints. E. Stagger end joints in adjacent rows. F. Do not stretch or overlap sad. G. Peg sad on slopes of3:1 or greater. Provide a minimum oftwo stakes per square yard. H. I. J. K. Water/sprinkle sad until damp throughout, immediately after transplanting. Roll sad, except on pegged areas, with roller weighing not more than 150 lbs per ft. of the roller width. Water/sprinkle the sad and soil until wet/damp to depth of4-inches within four hours after rolling. Re-sod areas larger than I-sqft that are not green/thriving and not having uniform stand ofgrass. 3.4 PROTECTION A. B. The individual (22) property owners will become responsible for maintaining their sod after the Contractor's responsibility expires for the 30-day watering/maintenance period. D. The Contractor shall provide a written warranty/guarantee that all sod shall remain in vigorous growing condition for one growing season from the invoice documented date ofpurchase/delivery.
