2 Course Description This presentation will outline the Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) process. In general, BECx is a quality-focused process for enhancing the delivery of a project. The process focuses upon verifying and documenting that the building systems and assemblies are planned, designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained to meet the Owner s Project Requirements (ASHRAE Guideline ). Using the established guidelines and project examples, we will describe the BECx process, outline on the roles and responsibilities of the BECx Agent, discuss the value inherent with the BECx process, and examine the future of BECx. 2

Building Enclosure Commissioning is a process that begins with the establishment of the Owner s Project Requirements and endeavors to ensure that the exterior enclosure and those elements intended to provide environmental separation within a building or structure meet or exceed the expectations of the Owner as identified in the OPR. (ASTM E ) 42

43 What the Commissioning Process is NOT A replacement for good design commissioned buildings can have problems if design is inadequate. Something that just anyone should undertake qualified and experienced staff is necessary. A series of checklists. Just field testing installed systems. Something done just to fulfill a LEED prerequisite. 43
