3 INSTALLATION GUIDE: THERMOTUBE Contents Installation: overview Thermotube works by pumping controlled flows of warm water through small diameter plastic tubing which can be fed from renewable sources including thermodynamic, solar thermal, biomass or heat pumps. The unique Thermoplate fixing panel provides an ideal substrate onto which you can lay a floating laminate or engineered timber floor. If required you can also tile directly over the system after pouring a layer of self levelling compound such as Econoplan. The push to fit pipe installation is quick and easy and the meandering layout creates an even spread of heat, eliminating hot and cold spots. Pipe formations: Here you can specify your desired output based on different pipe formations. Outputs are stated at an assumed flow temperature of 55 0 C and heat conduction resistance of 0.05 (laminate flooring). Single spaced run Output 10 W/m Pipe required 17 lm/m Double spaced run Output 5 W/m Pipe required.1 lm/m Installation: Floor build up examples and applications Thermotube is designed as an overlay system for insulated timber or screed substrates. Suitable floor finishes include, engineered and laminate floating floors, part HDF overlay such as heatpak and also suitable for tiles subject to adhesive manufacturers guildelines. (In the case of tiles the Thermoplate panels are fixed to the substrate.) Thermal and acoustic considerations: If the substrate requires thermal or acoustic improvement this should be laid prior to the Thermotube installation Carpet/Vinyl on a timber substrate 1. Desired floor finish. Self levelling compound. Thermotube system. Econoboard coated insulation board 5. Timber substrate Tiled finish on a concrete substrate 1. Tiles. Flexible tile adhesive. Thermotube system (Fixed to substrate with screws). Econoboard insulation board 5. Flexible tile adhesive 6. Concrete substrate / screed Laminate finish on a concrete substrate 1. 4 INSTALLATION GUIDE: THERMOTUBE Preparation: Manifold options and connections Main manifold Multiple zones or zones over 16m This manifold can be regarded as the main distribution point for all the underfloor heating. From each port a flow and return is run (mm pipe work) to the mini manifolds in each zone (8mm pipe work requires a sub pump to maintain pressure). Thermotube manifolds are made from finest quality brass coupled with fast push pipe fittings for a secure, easy connection. Below is a list of all the manifold fittings you might need during this installation Stock Code 109 Stock Code: 11 1/ Female Single Mini 1/ Female Adapter for Connection Adaptor (Includes copper inserts) (Includes copper inserts) Stock Code: 110 1/ Male Single Mini Connection Adaptor (Includes copper inserts) Stock Code: 111 1/ Female Adapter for double pipe connections (Includes copper inserts) Sub manifold Local connection points for each zone Manifold sizes & configurations differ depending on your project. 5 INSTALLATION GUIDE: THERMOTUBE Preparation: What do you need? Return to house circuit Flow from house circuit Return to house circuit Flow from house circuit BAR BAR First fix or existing circuit Thermotube system Typical pipe formation? The diagram above shows a typical spiral formation. It is important to have equal distribution of your thermotube piping. There should be equal spacing between the piping and the flow and return should run parallel with the middle point in the middle of your spiral. What system do I require? Use the table below to specify which components you will need to complete your installation. A B C D E F G Room Area (m ) No. of Thermoplates Example Room area = B Output required (lm pipe/m ) Choose output from p and put in relevant lm Pipe Length (lm) No. of circuits No. of Sub manifolds = B x D = E / 6m See chart below Single & Sub zone systems: If your project is 1 or zones, less than 16m per zone, you can use our Main Manifold (Stock 1) to control each zone. If the project is larger, with multiple zones we recommend the use of a sub-manifold arrangement with a main manifold configured to order. This will provide centralised control and pumped distribution point to ensure even heating. How many Sub/Mini Manifolds and parts do I require per room? Use the table below to specify which components you will need to complete your installation. Stock No * 1 1* 1 * 1 * * 107 * * 11 * * * * Main Manifold? 6 INSTALLATION GUIDE: THERMOTUBE Installation: Floating floor Main Manifold 1 Step 1: Prepare your substrate (insulate if necessary) Ensure your substrate is clean, level and free from any dust. You may require insulation depending on your existing substrate build-up. Install this before Thermotube. Do not install insulation over Underfloor Heating. Step : Choose mini manifold position(s) Step : Fit perimeter insulation As each pipe run is restricted to 6lm, careful consideration must be taken to site the mini manifolds in the most strategic locations to make the best use of pipe lengths. 5 Step : Lay Thermoplate Starting from a corner of your room, simply line up your Thermoplates and tessellate them in a grid formation to fill the installation area. Ensure to leave a gap around the edge of your room for perimeter expansion foam 6 Step 5: Lay Thermotube in a meander formation Carefully unroll pipes into the meandering channels in the Thermoplate, after 18lm return back adjascent to the previous pipe you have just installed paying attention to the chosen spacing as per page. Repeat as necessary depending on the room size. Look out for the markings on each meter of pipe. These will help you track when you need to return to the manifold. IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 6 Starting from a corner begin to roll your insulation around the perimeter of your room. Also insulate all pipes and fixed obstacles. This allows the screed to expand and contract when heated. Failure to allow for this expansion could result in a breakage in the screed. Step 6: Apply corner protectors and couple Thermotube to mini manifold Before connecting your Thermotube piping to your mini manifolds ensure that you have inserted your corner protectors (stock no: 1) in line with the curve approaching the manifold. Don t forget to use the copper inserts in the end of each pipe. IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DO NOT KINK PIPE ENSURE EDUQUATE DRYING TIMES FOR SCREED BEFORE ACTIVATING YOUR THERMOTUBE SYSTEM ENSURE ALL CIRCUITS ARE SIMILAR IN LENGTH CHECK REQUIED OUTPUT BEFORE CUTTING PIPE If you have any questions or queries regarding this product, or any other products or services Call our technical helpline for free on

7 INSTALLATION GUIDE: THERMOTUBE Installation: Floating floor & other applications Step 7: Perform a pressure test The entire installation should be tested to bar to check for leaks, and held for the duration whilst floor finish is applied. Notes Step 8: Lay floor covering The image above shows a self levelling compound being poured onto the substrate. However this product can be installed with various floor finishes. Always consult your floor manufacturers instructions before installing over under floor heating. Other applications: Tiled finish For a tiled flooring application follow the previous installation but fix Thermoplate with screws to your substrate. Once pipes are connected and pressure tested, cover the system in a fibre reinforced self levelling compound and in accordance with the adhesive manufacturers guidelines.
