GENERAL POINTS Aerated concrete BETONBLOC, a building material particularly designed for carcassing and light finishing work, has exceptional properties and qualities which make it a product completely suited to modern building methods. Composed of millions of miniscule closed cells filled with air, BETONBLOC is distinguished by: Lightness (density of 400 to 700kg/m3). Compressive strength (CS): average values measured on 25 to 50Kgf/cm blocks A remarkable level of thermal insulation. Exceptional thermal inertia (thermal comfort) Excellent burning behaviour. Easy shaping. Due to its density, it is classified as a light-weight or extra-lightweight concrete. Our Range of Products (p.13 and 14) Blocks Tiles Large tiles Megablocks Concrete angle blocks Concrete U-blocks Lintels Floor and roof panels Wall panels: horizontal or vertical Concrete glue 2

Properties and Performance of BETONBLOC Blocks and Tiles Complete range, from the cellar to the loft. 5 to 35cm thick. Blocks graded in mm allowing slim joints. Solid and hard material Load-bearing Thermal insulation Thermal inertia Light-weight Reduced sound transmission Non-flammable firestop Allows water vapour filtration Homogeneous construction Eliminates thermal bridges Extremely quick installation Easy finishing work Streamlined construction site 3

USE Aerated concrete blocks are used for the construction of internal and external bearing and non-bearing walls. They are recommended for all types of construction: houses, apartments, offices, garages, shops, schools, hospitals, industrial and agricultural buildings, etc. 4

Installed vertically, these components can be used as bearing walls. BETONBLOC is generally used for its excellent thermal insulation: particularly recommended for keeping buildings cool during the summer. As aerated concrete is easier and quicker to work with than traditional materials, it greatly reduces construction costs. 5

PROPERTIES DENSITY The dry density of BETONBLOC SEDPA is between 400 and 700kg/m3. The equilibrium moisture content of the aerated cement must be maintained +/-3% during working. For construction work, the following densities must be adhered to: Cement walls: from 400 to 700kg/m 3 Brick walls: from 530 to 700kg/m 3. The European standard EN NF qualitatively classifies aerated concrete according to dry density and compressive strength. 6

MANUFACTURE Manufacturing the blocks The raw materials are stored in different silos. The sand has previously been finely ground either after drying or by humidification (adding water). The raw materials are pumped from the silos and are accurately proportioned before being mixed, with water, in a mixer. After mixing, the mixture is poured into moulds, filling them half full. The lime/aluminium powder chemical reaction releases hydrogen, which creates a large number of cells and greatly increases the density. The miniscule hydrogen bubbles (cells) are quickly replaced by air. All the cells, totally independent from one another (closed cells) are encased in the concrete, hence the name aerated concrete. Raw materials Only mineral matter: - Pure white sand - Lime - Cement - Aluminium powder Once the lime/aluminium powder reaction has finished, the concrete mixture has enough consistency to be removed without losing its shape. The concrete mass, at the start of the hardening process, is cut to the required dimensions with a steel wire. BETONBLOC SEDPA is then processed in an autoclave at 180 C. During this process, mainly calcium hydrosilicates are released, giving the product its final stability. Following the autoclaving, of between 8 to 12 hours, the concrete items have acquired their resistance, their final properties, and are ready to be used. 8

Texture BETONBLOC SEDPA, white mineral product, chemically stable, is free from organic matter: it is therefore completely rot-proof. The texture is formed by millions of miniscule closed cells, encased in concrete. 9

ADVANCED FEATURES Mechanical strength Earthquake-proof Thermal insulation Thermal comfort Sound insulation Fire resistant Fixing Economical Environmentally friendly Mechanical strength BETONBLOC SEDPA has a mechanical strength 30% greater than some traditional carcassing materials. Its assets are guaranteed solidity, stability and long life. Earth-quake proof BETONBLOC SEDPA is ideal for building work carried out in earthquake zones, due mainly to the lightness of the materials and its thin cement layer installation system. However, for a good installation, it is recommended to use the same materials from the cellar to the loft for a homogeneous construction, remembering to follow the current regulations in force in earthquake zones. 10

Thermal insulation BETONBLOC SEDPA provides your building with exceptional thermal insulation, without the need for any additional insulating material. It is energy-saving thanks to its perfect insulation, allowing you to save money. Thermal comfort The structure of BETONBLOC SEDPA used for all building work (doors, floors, roofs) allows you to eliminate thermal bridges, thus guaranteeing you exceptional comfort. In summer as in winter, the inside temperature remains healthy and pleasant. Sound insulation BETONBLOC SEDPA meets the requirements of the new sound regulations currently in force, giving perfect sound insulation for both internal and external noises. Fire resistant BETONBLOC SEDPA: guaranteed fire safety. Due to its natural mineral matter, it is non-combustible and acts as a fire stop for between 1 and 6 hours depending on its thickness. It guarantees an exceptional protection against fire for industrial buildings as well as houses. A1 classification. Tools BETONBLOC SEDPA's large range of tools guarantees an extremely easy installation, whilst allowing highquality precision and finishing work (shaping, installing, drilling, grooving). 11

ADVANCED FEATURES Economical BETONBLOC SEDPA allows you to make savings, particularly of time, by reducing the duration of the building work thanks to its design. Its sound and thermal insulation properties will allow you to cut your energy consumption. The durability of the SEDPA concrete block building system means you will not have to carry out any renovation work (unlike other building systems). Environmentally friendly BETONBLOC SEDPA is environmentally friendly. It does not contain toxic materials or radioactive elements. It is environmentally friendly, from its production through to its use in construction work. Thanks to its thermal non-conductivity, BETONBLOC SEDPA saves energy and does not pollute the atmosphere, unlike other building materials. Few raw materials are required for its manufacture, thus protecting natural resources: it therefore protects the environment. 12
