6 Local Streets Project Policies for Local Streets: No hauling and no construction vehicles on residential streets. No parking on residential streets outside of permitted closures. Enforcement: Training and take-home materials for craft and sub contractors prior to starting on the job. Signage in the yards and on local streets. Flaggers strategically placed to avoid violations. Stand-down meetings with construction supervision and craft. Penalties for companies and employees that violate policies. Hard-hat sticker provided to all craft and subs on the project. 6

15 La Brea Station Pile Installation La Brea Pile Installation Overview On Wilshire from Orange Dr. to Detroit St. Pile installation includes: Rig to construct approx. 95ft (L) deep Crane lifting approx. 95Ft (L), 24 Inch H-piles into holes Approx. 590 piles total Drilling, pile installation and backfilled concrete completed same day Pile Installation for South side of Wilshire April 2016-Summer* Orange Dr to Detroit St Work hours: 7am to 11pm with potential nighttime work hours from 11pm to 7am. Will require directional closures on La Brea, Wilshire and intermittent closures of Orange Dr and Sycamore. 16 Weekend Directional Closures for Piling Weekend Directional Closures for Piling on the South Side of Wilshire April 2016-Summer* Approved weekend directional closures start Friday 9pm-Monday 6am Directional closures for piling on the south side of Wilshire will include closures of southbound La Brea, northbound La Brea and eastbound Wilshire. La Brea directional closures use Highland, 6 th St. and 8 th St. as detours. Wilshire directional closures use Fairfax, La Brea, and 6 th St. as detours. Work includes pot holing, pre-trenching, piling, jet grouting. Traffic officers dispatched to facilitate traffic movement. *Dates and work activities subject to change Pile work under a northbound directional closure on La Brea Directional closure locations in the Wilshire/La Brea area. 16

17 Appendage Piles, South Side of Wilshire Appendage piles are the ancillary piles for the structures on the sides of the station box. Located on the north and south side of Wilshire Blvd on La Brea, Sycamore, and Orange. Appendage structures include: Vent shafts, exit stairwells, and station entrance at La Brea Appendage piles are smaller and shorter (40-60ft.) than the station box piles. Requires closures on La Brea, Sycamore, and Orange. This diagram shows the appendage structure locations on the south side of Wilshire boxed in purple. 17

20 La Brea Station Decking Overview Decking On Wilshire, between Orange Dr. and Detroit St. Construction of a concrete deck, curb to curb Sidewalks be maintained, or pedestrian detours created Decking will serve as the temporary street surface Traffic will travel on the installed deck panels while the station is constructed underground La Brea Station: Approx. 1,000 feet long Approx. 70 feet wide Approx. 60 feet deep Will follow pile operations; anticipated to begin June 2016 Will work closely with First Responders on emergency access and safety Pending Board of Public Works approval in May Additional activities under decking closures: jet grouting, piling, temp. civil improvements

34 Bus Detours Wilshire and La Brea Phase I/II: 720/20, LADOT Dash, AVT Eastbound/Westbound Wilshire Buses will be temporarily suspended between Fairfax and La Brea Nearest bus stop locations will be at Wilshire/Crescent Heights and Wilshire/ Highland. LADOT Dash Buses will be temporarily suspended on 6 th Street between Hauser and La Brea Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVT) buses will also be temporarily suspended on Wilshire LADOT Dash and AVT Bus Detours will be coordinated with Metro bus operations. 34

42 Jet Grouting Jet grouting is a construction process that uses high-pressure air and grout to create a deep soil-concrete block. The purpose of jet grouting is to reinforce and strengthen the soil with concrete to support tunneling and cross-passage excavation. Examples of jet grouting at Wilshire and Detroit behind K-rail 42

There will be no more than two jet-grouting operations being performed at one time. Approximately 6 weeks at each location. 1. On Wilshire between Rossmore and Arden 2. Deck openings will be done at locations of the deck that are designed to open and close. 58 Fairfax Traffic Reconfiguration Piling Preparation Anticipated start is June 2016 Start date depends on DWP cable pulling, 3 rd party relocations. Install traffic reconfiguration over a single weekend. Wilshire will be reduced to two lanes in each direction from Spaulding to San Diego Way. Ogden crosswalk to shift from west leg to east leg. Potential off-peak lane reductions to one lane in each direction. Left turn pockets will remain open at Wilshire and Fairfax during north side pile operations only. 58

Operation anticipated to take approximately 4-6 months on each side of the street. Typical work hours 7am-11pm with potential nighttime work hours from 11pm to 7am.
