5 Surface Civil Works/ Rasuwa Construction Co. The construction of civil surface works including hydro-mechanical works of the project, which includes the construction of headworks, desilting basin, water conductor pipe, penstock pipe, powerhouse, tailrace and switchyard and all related hydro-mechanical works, was awarded to MS Rasuwa Construction Company Pvt. Ltd. in February Considering the necessity of smooth coordination between civil and hydro-mechanical works, the HM works were included in contract package II along with civil works. The prime contractor Rasuwa Construction Company Pvt. Ltd. has appointed Machhapuchhre Metal and Machinery Works (3MW) as nominated subcontractor, which is doing all the hydro-mechanical works of the project. Further, the civil works of penstock pipe alignment and water conductor pipe alignment have been extracted from the prime contractor and awarded to Machhapuchhre Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (MEPL), a sister company of 3MW, for better coordination in interfacing works and to achieve the scheduled progress. Diversion Weir, Intake and Feeder Pipe Intake structure including embedment parts, under sluice portion of diversion weir, apron slab, right bank shear wall etc. are completed. Spill weir portion and left bank shear wall was under construction and due to the flood, the construction works on the river structures have stopped. Out of 9 blocks, the block no. 7 has not yet been started and the blocks 4. & 5 are partially completed. At the upstream face of block no. 4 & 5, the weir portion has been raised up to the height of 2.4 m (El m) from the apron slab. The crest level of the weir is m. The civil works of the intake structure is already completed. However, the bell mouth (Transition from intake to feeder pipe) could have constructed along with feeder pipe installation works with its associated civil works, but due to the possibility of access road blockage to the desilting basin and WCP, this part is still scheduled for next season. The possible parts of feeder pipe installation (about 50 m) with civil works are done. Construction works at diversion weir Feeder Pipe Monthly Progress Report 5

6 Desilting Basin As the civil works of weir has stopped due to flood, all the team moved to commence the works at desilting basin. The desilting basin structure was not kept in priority earlier because since it was not in critical path and can be done in wet season too. Now, the concreting works of shear walls are going on very smoothly. The shear wall concreting of block two of two bays is going on after completing the first block. Water Conductor Pipe & Penstock Pipe Alignment and Valve house Construction Works at Desilting Basin The excavation of the trench for the buried WCP is being continued by the nominated subcontractor Machhapuchhre Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (MEPL), a sister company of 3MW. About 550 m of WCP has been installed till date. However, excavation works have been stopped due to almost daily raining and seepage problems. Only at the rock area stretch of the alignment, the excavation work can be conducted. But, due to difficulty in the access up to the rocky portion Installation of WCP and Concrete casing at crossing area, still no excavation has been carried out. The WCP pipes are concrete cased at different stretches where required such as at river crossing, road crossing and at some bends etc. At the penstock alignment, MEPL has completed first stage concreting of anchor blocks AB-2 and AB-3 and bend fitting works are going on. Anchor blocks AB-5 and AB-6 are completed with pipe fitting and second stage concreting. The penstock pipe between AB-5 and AB-6 has been completed. The trench excavation and laying of penstock pipes are going on between anchor blocks 4 & 5. Penstock Pipe and bend Monthly Progress Report 6

7 The construction of valve house which is situated immediate after the tunnel outlet and beginning of the penstock pipe shall be started only after completion of tunneling works. Power House The machine foundation concreting works up to the machine floor level has already completed for all the three units with first stage EM embedment parts. The deck wall, tail pool concreting has been completed up to the level m. The tail pool slab has been concreted for all three units. Similarly, the shear walls around the powerhouse has raised up to the level m. One lift concreting of 2.4m at the deck wall of unit three has been completed and shear wall of unit three is being raised one lift of 2.4m. As the river discharge at the Marsyangdi river is increasing, the seepage is increasing, however continuous dewatering is conducting. The thrust block of the branching penstock pipe for all three units have completed with installation of reducer and bend pipe. For the smooth flow of flood discharge, Marsyangdi river has been widened by removing partially the coffer dam materials, by blasting the big boulders situated at the middle of the river, which are disturbing for smooth river flow. The embankments have been raised above the flood flow level too. Underground Civil Works/Tunnel The excavation works in the tunnel from both inlet and outlet sides is continuing normally as the rockmass quality is improving. Total progress achieved up to the end of June 2018 is 1440 m. Excavation from Inlet The rockmass condition at the face of tunnel is improving gradually and started full face blasting. From the mid of June, a nieche excavation at the chainage CH 0+375m was started. After completion of nieche excavation, the tunnel face blasts are usually going on twice per day. The excavation progress achieved till the end of June 2018 is up to CH m. A robotic shotcrete machine has also deployed by MID and will be used soon which makes quality shotcrete and shortens the tunnel cycle too. Excavation from Outlet Powerhouse construction works The geology of the tunnel face is now improving and advancing of the tunnel is going on with full face blasts with rib supports. The spacing of the ribs are increased. Frequent two blasts per day are performing. The excavation progress achieved till the end of June 2018 is up to CH m. Monthly Progress Report 7

8 HRT Faces Inlet (Explosive charging) and Outlet Robotic Shotcrete Machine delivered at site by MID Hydro-Mechanical Works The hydro-mechanical works of contract package II is being conducted by the nominated subcontractor Machhapuchhre Metal and Machinery Works Pvt. Ltd. (3MW). 3MW has already installed the embedded metallic parts along with gate/stoplog frames at undersluice, Intake, Desilting Basin and Draft Tube at powerhouse. As per the progress in civil works along the water conductor pipe alignment, the installation of WCP is going on since the required pipes have sufficiently already fabricated. About 550 m WCP has been installed. The reducers with bends for all the three units of the powerhouse have been installed. The anchor block penstock bends are all fabricated and already installed at AB-02, AB-03, AB 05 and AB 06. The laying of pipes is Monthly Progress Report 8
