1 Vol. 33 No. 1 Feb TU352 A Study on Seismic Performance of Single-span Frame Strengthened by Wing-wall Lin Shu-zhi 1 2 Yuan Xing-ren 1 1. School of Architecture & Civil Engineering Xiamen University Xiamen China 2. Xiamen Construction and Administration Bureau Xiamen China Abstract With lack of redundant constraints single-span frame structure is a weak seismic system and easy to collapse. Since the seismic fortification was enhanced the existing buildings need to be strengthened to improve seismic performance. Wing-wall strengthening has been well concerned for its convenient layout and good bearing capacity but it is unclear how this method would be effective. In this paper the seismic performance of a typical school building strengthened by wing-walls is analyzed and the strengthening effect under various sizes and types of wing-wall is discussed in details. Some questions and suggestions in wing-wall strengthening engineering are also proposed. Keywords single-span frame wing-wall seismic strengthening shuzhi@ public. xm. fj. cn
