3 Production and logistics Engineering and planning The final result is always born of an initial vision which soon becomes an idea, and is then turned into a preliminary and later a final architectural design. From this point on, in the industrialised process, executive and construction planning begin, which are absolutely essential for identifying all of the components, for their correct manufacture and for subsequent on-site installation. Our design and construction administration office is made up of structural engineers, architects, technicians and surveyors who take minute care of all executive and construction decisions, and who maintain an ongoing dialogue with the designer of the project, with the aid of sophisticated 3D modelling software, both in the structural calculation phase and in the design phase. Planning Our philosophy means that nothing is left to chance: every detail of the building to be executed must be explored, described and mechanically rendered, and it must comply fully with design requirements and the expectations of the Customer. Planning, precision and control are the key words for the production cycle of each component. Our NC machines and robotic systems allow monitoring of execution times during work. Thorough control in every phase of each cycle guarantees correspondence of components with plans. ID markings for each component and logistical planning of loads and transport allow simplification and time-saving in the on-site handling and movements schedule. Inside our manufacturing plant in Rovereto, with a floorspace of about 8000 m², we carry out preliminary work (cutting of plates and joining of subcomponents) and carpentry work (joints and bonding), we manufacture the light components in steel and aluminium sheets (from coil flattening to pantograph cutting, through to robotic folding) and we handcraft our prestigious architectural components. Finally we carry out the entire cycle of manufacturing of continuous façades and steel and aluminium windows and doors using NC machinery and modern.

4 Assembly and on-site work The site is where the building takes shape through assembly and mounting of all the components which have been designed and produced in advance. Proper execution of assembly depends on accurate planning of the resources employed, machinery and vehicle availability, delivery logistics and component handling. Our view is that it is essential in this phase of the process to be able to rely on suitably qualified skilled operatives with a high level of experience who use modern equipment and suitable lifting gear such as mobile cranes and mobile elevating platforms to operate efficiently and safely. We take this question of safety - and in particular the safety of our site workers - during the assembly phase very seriously. Our technicians therefore make provision for suitable fixed systems to prevent falls right from the planning phase, and our site managers who are experts in the field are at hand to plan and allow for possible critical points arising in the building schedule. Our skilled operatives, owned vehicles and machinery furthermore render us flexible and self-sufficient in our work organisation, guaranteeing compliance with quality standards and agreed work schedules. Project Management The construction process evolves through all of the phases described above. Each function and department interfaces with the others in accordance with precise procedures, and there is also constant liaising with the designer, the Customer and the other companies which might be involved in on-site work. In this regard, the figure of the Project Manager ensures coordination of all of the activities. The PM acts as the main point of reference for all matters regarding the commissioned project with a view to fulfilling every single contractual undertaking. This role is filled by our most experienced personnel who know how to tackle any specific technical or planning-related problems, and also how to overcome obstacles to a smooth evolution of on-site work. Coordination

5 The sustainability of dry structures Sustainability is a very broad concept which involves many aspects of the life of buildings: from the process of creating the components to their on-site assembly, from the life of the building while in use right through to its demolition. Sustainability thus does not end with the notion of energy saving; its definition and achievement are much more complex, involving a series of aspects which must include the construction process, caretaking of the building and its final conversion or demolition. Contemporary architecture in Italy is finally - and enthusiastically - focussing on the use of building systems with a high technology content to meet the functional and aesthetic requirements of projects, and to fulfil organisational and management needs during the process of construction. In this regard metallic dry prefabrication has come to take on a fundamental role thanks to the excellent results achieved by the systems, by the materials available on the market and by execution and assembly techniques. The term dry construction in fact identifies the use during the construction phase of materials and components which have been prefabricated using an industrialised process. Thus, and compared to traditional methods which involved veritable on-site production processes (reinforced concrete structures, floor slabs with beams, masonry, brick walls, etc.), perfect dovetailing of the finished building with pre-established requirements at the planning stage can be ensured, with a number of important advantages: - Minute planning and control of the construction process and use of quality materials and components which are guaranteed and certified. - Reduced costs and building schedules which exactly meet estimates. - Complete conceptual freedom in architectural planning in terms of forms, geometries and requirements. - Shorter site schedules (and consequent reduction of costs) and less on-site infrastructure with reduction of site impact on surrounding urban context. - Reduction of foundation work given lighter nature of structures. - Reduction of load allows broader spans between pillars and consequent increase of internal spaces and greater ductility. - Achievement of ambitious and certifiable objectives for thermal and acoustic insulation and fire protection needs with elimination of thermal and acoustic bridges in the building. - Capacity to integrate with technological networks, rendering mechanical and electrical systems installed easy to inspect and accessible, and executed in accordance with precise and pre-established routing, without the usual on-site variations and imprecision and without the need for demolition. - Complete compliance, without any additional cost, with new anti-seismic requirements (Ministerial Decree 14/09/2005). - Results of projects are more durable and require less maintenance (almost none in most cases). - Maximum executive flexibility and facility for any alterations of spaces, expansions or changes in the function of the building or of any parts thereof. - Lowering of building demolition costs, rendering them highly recyclable. Pre metal SpA is a founding partner of Green Building Council Italia, the association which introduced the LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design independent certification system into Italy, establishing exact criteria for planning and executing healthy and energy-efficient buildings with limited environmental impact. The solutions offered by the Pre Metal Group are fully compatible with the notion of sustainable building. In particular, their compliance with LEED standards and the chief systems of environmental certification for buildings facilitates loan approval. We offer cooperation and consultation to building designers and Customers in identifying the building systems and components most suitable for satisfying the aesthetic, functional and economic requirements for a given project, paying particular attention to integration of elements and executive planning. We draw up technical and economic proposals and dedicated estimates for the execution of sustainable buildings offering turnkey solutions or solutions for individual parts of buildings. 6 Steel structures STRENGTH AND LIGHTNESS are the first impressions that strike anyone looking at steel structures employed in projects with significant architectural and engineering input. The search for new forms and the need for ductility and freedom in spaces all favour the use of steel in contemporary buildings, which in turn allows limitation of the cumbersome elements of structures and wider clear spans. Currently the need to control SUSTAINABILITY and environmental impact, both during production processes and in finished buildings, is increasingly an issue, leading to greater awareness on the part of building designers and others working in the sector. These trends have pushed steel to the top of the list of useable materials due the fact that it is HIGHLY RECYCLABLE, while the ease and speed of on-site assembly of prefabricated structures lowers the cost of construction administration and preliminary site work. Finally, the FLEXIBILITY of steel structures and prefabricated components permits possible future adaptation and reuse of spaces, through expansion or elevation, or by means of disassembly and reassembly through a high level of builtin versatility when creating joints and supporting and bracing elements. Courtain walls and aluminium glazing fixtures TRANSPARENCY AND PROTECTION are basic emotional needs, and they are rendered perfectly compatible in the execution of the ultra- modern continuous façades and the most advanced door and window systems in aluminium and glass. These comprehensively meet architectural requirements for natural light while also satisfying performance-related needs for thermal and acoustic insulation and safety, saving energy and yielding living comfort and functional wellbeing. A thorough knowledge of systems and products, planning experience, and awareness of manufacturing and installation problems are all fundamental for obtaining genuine added value in the execution of glazed building envelopes. 7 Architectural envelopes ATTRACTIVE WALL SOLUTIONS in the form of ventilated façades, a blend of form and technology, visually lightening large-scale faces, which at the same time manage to act as a veritable skin for the building. They can be used to add value and renovate any existing covering even in the case of lower-grade building envelopes. From the point of view of performance they act as an outer skin which is separated from the underlying masonry by a suitable anchoring substructure, creating a ventilated cavity where heat from the sun s rays is dissipated and where an insulating layer can be fitted as cladding, thus meeting thermal, acoustic and fire protection needs. A VARIETY of MATERIALS can be used, such as aluminium in sheets or Alucobondtype composites, steel, cortain, Reinzink, copper, fibre cement, re-composites, glass, etc. A VARIETY of formal solutions is also available for the individual elements making up the system such as trapezoidal or sinusoidal panels, extruded panels, cassette or flat panels, stretched panels and so on. Proper design and accurate dimensions in the anchoring substructure are fundamental for obtaining evenly flat, vertical and horizontal effects in the seams and joins of the facing. The choice of finishing elements is also very important for executing the seams and connections, copings, sills, covering strips, cornices, door and window frames and so on. Coverings and facings THE MOST DEMANDING PERFORMANCE-RELATED REQUIREMENTS can be met by using materials and components with high technological value, which can be warranted and certified at the manufacturing phase. The ever increasing needs for energy saving and acoustic comfort require an exact and well-chosen approach when planning building execution. Furthermore these needs render monitoring of on-site building processes an absolute necessity in order to ensure actual compliance with requirements established at the planning phase in the case of walls or coverings. Such parameters must also be measurable and certifiable during the building phase for joints, seams, fixtures and fittings and so on. What this amounts to is the logic of industrialised processes. The market offers an endless number of technical solutions in terms of materials and components. Our long experience and our ongoing passion for innovating and breaking new ground transforms these into actual projects that take into account the real needs of the Customer as well as the functional and architectural choices of the designer.
