1 Certificate No: EW369A Rockwool UK - REDArt Silicone Description of Product The REDArt Silicone system is produced from insulation made of renewable volcanic rock. There are a number of options in thickness and fixing methods to meet different substrate conditions. The ROCKWOOL REDArt Silicone system is applied in two coats. The first includes a reinforcing mesh to impart strength to the system. The second coat is a decorative colour finish. 2 This is an assessment of various Rockwool External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS) with rendering, intended for use as external thermal insulation of buildings. The ETICS are mechanically fixed to a masonry wall and are suitable for use on new and existing construction and satisfy the functional requirements of Building Regulations. Documents provided for RD included Rockwool façade standard details, Ceram hygrothermal test reports & pull through testing of fixings into mineral fibre insulation, Exova Warrington fire test reports, BuildDesk U value calculations & condensation risk analysis, Draft European Technical Approval. The systems are under consideration for a European Technical Approval (draft stage) and information has been provided to demonstrate essential requirements of ETAGs are achievable. 1 The systems are non-loadbearing. The systems are mechanically fixed to masonry or concrete substrate. In most cases adhesive is also incorporated to supplement the fixing (design to be agreed on a case by case basis ). Wind load suction calculations to be provided to confirm fixing required. Pull out tests to be carried out for each project in accordance with ETAG 014. Example of test result provided. 2 No effect on external flame spread or unprotected areas. Fire test reports provided demonstrate the systems achieve European class B,s1,d0. Rockwool are undertaking further tests to improve performance ( B to A2 ). 3 When used over existing construction the systems provide a degree of resistance to precipitation and wind driven spray. When incorporated in new construction the complete wall should be designed to resist precipitation. 4 Surface and interstitial condensation risk analysis provided with the example U Value calculations; this will need to be verified for alternative constructions. 5 Extract fan ductwork will need to be extended. 6 Retro fit boiler flue to be extended by a competent person in accordance with ADJ. 7 Example calculations submitted to demonstrate limiting U values of 0.28 and 0.3 W/m2K can be achieved. Calculations for other U values to be provided for alternative construction. 8 All installers are trained by Rockwool technicians and receive a card to confirm that they have been trained. Rockwool technicians monitor the installer and the work in progress to confirm in accordance with guidelines. 9 Appropriate thermal analysis will be provided in each instance to demonstrate continued compliance with Approved Document L 2013.
