1 BUSINESS AFFAIRS PLANNING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION REPORT TO THE LAND USE AND FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE TO: The LUFP Committee FOR: February 6, LUFPC meeting. VIA: Carlos Dougnac, Assistant Vice President, PDC FROM: Frank Javaheri, Project Manager REQUESTOR: Dr. Tom Dana, COE PRESENTERS: Frank Javaheri, Joe Walker PHASE: Committee Responsibilities: STATUS AND PRIOR COMMENTS: DATE: The committee will provide preliminary review of the proposed land use and siting options, and recommend approval/denial of these options. PROGRAMMING Motion to approve the project as presented with an investigation to try and preserve the 19 lost parking spaces and another investigation to upgrade the structure for adding a future floor above the single story. SCHEMATIC DESIGN The committee will review and recommend approval/denial of building footprints and initial development of the site plan and exterior building design. Motion to approve the project location as presented with possible softening of southern exposure arches of the conference center X DESIGN DEVELOPMENT The committee will review and recommend approval/denial of final architectural design, including landscaping of buildings, building additions/renovations, and utility projects. Approval Requested BACKGROUND INFORMATION: PROJECT: UF-221, Norman Hall Rehabilitation and College of Education Center Addition SITE: Norman Hall Complex. See attached presentation for location map. STATUS: Design Development Completed. Library renovation and office space renovation started and expected to be completed by mid-may Historic Norman Construction is scheduled to commence late in May 2018 and expected to be completed in 13 Mo. Classes to begin Fall, OBJECTIVES: Approve the DD Phase and site development option. PROJECT PHASE AND PRESENTATION NARRATIVE: Advanced Schematic Design ENCLOSURES: 1. Presentation Changes made as recommended during the ASD phase per attached. Historic Norman 100%CDs progressing. Also concepts for the site improvements are provided to enhance the pedestrian, bike, vehicular traffic circulation. PD&C REVISED AUGUST 2017

4 NORMAN HALL PROJECT UPDATE ORIGINAL REVIEW COMMENTS Retain Wood and Tile interior elements Response: Key interior wood and tile elements are retained and renderings of proposed schemes are included in this presentation Retain some original historic windows similar to previous work at Buckman Response: Historic windows will be retained in the tower element on the North elevation Windows in the addition should better align with the windows in Old Norman Response: Windows have been updated and addition elevations have been revised to better align with historic architecture Pursue landscape concept 4 or 3 Response: Landscape concept has been updated to minimize impact of service elements on site

30 UF-619 IBC Design Narrative: The new IBC concept evolved from two early ideas about cloth patterns which influenced the planning and orientation of social spaces to support spaces, with strong geometries against a flat bar of program and a second concept focusing on a string oval social space at the center of the institute. 31 UF-619 IHLC Design Narrative: The new IHLC concept evolved from two concepts, with student and project team members focusing on the Palapa concept. The idea of an open sided social gathering space with a clearly defined overhead covering.
