1 GUIDE SPECIFICATION FINA Stoneworks NATURAL STONE HONEYCOMB REINFORCED PANEL SYSTEM Section WALL PANELS This suggested guide specification has been developed using the current edition of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) "Manual of Practice," including the recommendations for the CSI 3 Part Section Format and the CSI Page Format. Additionally, the development concept and organizational arrangement of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) MASTERSPEC Program have been recognized in the preparation of this guide specification. Neither CSI nor AIA endorse specific manufacturers and products. The preparation of the guide specification assumes the use of standard contract documents and forms, including the Conditions of the Contract, published by the AIA. Part 1 - GENERAL Summary A. Section Includes: Natural Stone, Honeycomb Reinforced Wall Panel System / FINA Stoneworks, LLC / including installation, anchorage and accessories. 1. FINA Stoneworks LLC natural stone honeycomb reinforced wall panel system. a. EXTERIOR Natural Stone Honeycomb Reinforced Wall Panel is 1 nominal thickness. Standard system depth, substrate to face of stone dimension is 2 3/8. b. INTERIOR Natural Stone Honeycomb Reinforced Wall Panel is 5/8 nominal thickness. Standard system depth, substrate to face of stone dimension is 1. i. NOTE: Custom panel configurations for INTERIOR Wall Panels nominal thicknesses are available and will impact system depth dimension. Contact manufacturer for additional information. B. Seismic Design Loads c. Material Properties of Connection System SUBMITTALS A. General: a. Product Data, shop drawings, samples and ASTM data sheets for each stone type to be used b. Preparation instructions and recommendations c. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations d. Installation methods e. Cleaning and maintenance instructions per MIA recommendations B. Shop Drawings: a. Provide shop drawings with details of conditions related, but not limited to the fabrication of panel, panel joints, anchorage details and relationship with adjacent construction b. Identification nomenclature to be marked on the back of each panel and coincide with shop drawings c. Plan, elevation, section and detail drawing sheets as required for proper fabrication and installation of panel system d. Show locations and details of joints and locations and details of anchoring system. C. Quality Assurance and Control Samples: a. Test Reports: Submit independent laboratory certified test reports showing compliance with specified performance characteristics. b. Single Source Requirements: To the greatest extent possible the components of the stone cladding system shall be from a single manufacturer. c. Stone Samples: Provide (4) each, 12 x12 samples of the stone to be used. Samples are for approving color range, stone finish and general characteristics of the stone Warranty A. Project Warranty: Refer to Conditions of Contract for project warranty provisions. B. Manufacturer s Product Warranty: Submit for Owner s acceptance, manufacturer s warranty: 1. Warranty Period: Ten (10) years from the date of substantial completion of installing FINA Stoneworks Panels, that the panels be free from defects in lamination or separation of panel components

3 1.06 Quality Assurance A. Qualifications: 1. Manufacturer shall have a minimum of 10 years demonstrated capability producing honeycomb reinforced, natural stone panel system. Proven independent laboratory tests verifying system performance for building code requirements. 2. Installer Qualifications: Installer who has specialized in the installation of similar work, determined by Contractor, with demonstrated experience is deemed acceptable by the manufacturer. B. Pre-Installation Meetings: Conduct pre-installation meeting to verify project requirements, substrate conditions, manufacturer s installation instructions, and manufacturer's warranty requirements Delivery, Storage, and Handling A. Deliver, store and handle materials and products in strict compliance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations and industry standards. B. Do not use materials that may cause staining or discoloration for blocking or packing C. Deliver material in manufacturer s original container, unopened, undamaged and have manufactures labeled intact. Non-container materials are to be handled and stored in a way that does not deform or impact its integrity or functionality D. Protect from damage and store materials within absolute limits for temperature and humidity recommended by manufacturer E. Do not handle with gloves that may bleed color and stain materials F. Protect from exposure to inclement weather and airborne or liquid contaminates G. Store manufacturer s products in labeled packaging until ready for installation Part 2 PRODUCTS Manufacturers (Acceptable Manufacturers/Products) 1. Acceptable Material Manufacturers: a. General: Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section Materials: 1. Material Standards: Natural stone bonded to 3003 Alloy, 3.6 density aluminum honeycomb core sandwich panel having epoxy fiberglass skins 2. Facing thickness: 1/4 inch (±1/16 inch), [6.35 mm (±1.6 mm)] natural stone 3. Reinforcing honeycomb panel: 3/4 inch or 1/2 inch [(19 mm) or (13 mm)] aluminum honeycomb core with fiberglass skins bonded to stone using high-strength epoxy

4 2.03 Accessories: A. Attachment system, including extruded Z-Sections, structural aluminum channel system, tabs, angles, clips and inserts 2.04 Related Materials: A. Sealants: Sealant materials specified in section shall be tested for compatibility with the natural stone facings specified B. Shims: Plastic or neoprene glazing shims 2.05 Construction: A. General a. Construction of the structure and components intended to receive panels are required to maintain standard construction tolerances. Structural backup requirements are per manufacturer s installation instructions and with minimum clearances and shim spacing Stone Type and Stone Finish: A. Stone Type: or as noted on drawings B. Single Source Requirements: To the greatest extent possible the components of the stone cladding system shall be from a single manufacturer. Part 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Preparation A. Examine surfaces and conditions with Installer present. Do not proceed with installation until substrates have been properly prepared and deviations from tolerances are corrected. Commencement of installation constitutes acceptance of conditions. B. Verify substrate and framing is acceptable for product installation. Prepare substrates for achieving the best result for the substrate. C. If preparation is the responsibility of others, notify Architect in writing of deviations from recommended installation tolerances and conditions. D. Field measuring: verification of dimensions and conditions for, but not limited to openings, elevations, out to out, recesses, transitions and terminations must be recorded on shop drawings. Shop drawings must be signed and stamped Approved for Fabrication prior to fabrication of stone cladding panels

5 3.02 Installation A. Install in accordance with manufacturer s written instructions and recommendations. B. Install stone honeycomb cladding system with joints uniform in appearance and stone edges and faces aligned to tolerances indicated. C. Provide supports where needed for proper support of panels and panels attachment system D. Provide separation or non-conductive material between connection points of aluminum and sources of corrosion or electrolytic action contact points E. Joint Sealants: Refer to related Section Joint Treatment (Sealants) 3.03 Cleaning, Maintenance and Protection A. General 1. Clean installed product as recommended by fabricator, stone producer or refer to National Stone Institute and website address 2. Protect panels at all time. Keep panels free of any chemicals, oils, grease, fuel, soil, silicones, acid, or other contaminants that could cause staining. 3. After installation, it may be required to cover panels for protection from contaminants until project completion END OF SECTION
