Theoretical coverage rate at 50 µ is 11m²/litre 3M Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 75µ per coat Theoretical coverage rate at 75 µ is 8m²/litre If applied in accordance with this Application Guide, has an expected service life of 10 years.

Surface Preparation & Cleaning Heavy deposits of dirt, silt and other contamination should be removed from the surface. All surfaces should be high-pressure detergent washed to remove all dirt, debris, oil, diesel and other contamination. The adhesion of the existing paint system to the substrate should be checked using the V Cut Procedure - Using a sharp knife the coating should be cut through to the substrate making two cuts in the shape of the letter V. The knife should then be inserted at the point of the V and flicked upwards to test the adhesion. If no coating is removed, or the coating splits cohesively, leaving a layer of coating on the surface, then the adhesion of the system can be considered suitable for overcoating. Any areas of loosely adhering coating or loose flaking paint must be scraped away to provide a firm sound surface. Surfaces of the existing coating should then be lightly abraded, with edges feathered in, then wiped/rinsed to remove all dust and abrasive residue. All corroded areas should be thoroughly prepared by wire brushing and/or angle grinding to achieve ISO St3. All prepared corroded areas should then be patch primed with Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 as described later/further in this document. Any white zinc salts should be removed by light abrasion or scouring with 3M Scotchbrite abrasive pads. The use of a proprietary Mordant Solution/T Wash is recommended on Zinc surfaces. When used as directed by the manufacturer s instructions, this will provide a useful indicator of surface cleanliness as well as etching the surface. When used correctly the surface should turn blue/black. If this doesn t occur then the surface should be cleaned again and the Mordant Solution reapplied.

Patch Priming Corroded Areas With Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 is a single component solvent based primer and should only require stirring prior to use to incorporate any slight separation. Provided the prepared surface is dry and free from condensation or ice, Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 can be applied at temperatures down to 0 C with no restriction on dew point or relative humidity, however, the product should not be applied during rain/snow or where precipitation is likely to occur before the coating has achieved a touch dry state. Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 should be applied by brush, ensuring the product is worked well into pitted areas, at a dry film thickness of 50 microns. The theoretical coverage rate at 50 microns is 11m²/litre. These patch primed areas can be overcoated with the subsequent primer coat after they have achieved a touch dry state, typically a minimum of 1 hour at 20ºC. Provided surfaces are clean the maximum overcoating time is 7 days with itself.

Application of Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 to Patch Primed Corroded Areas & Exposed Metal Surfaces Areas that have been previously treated with Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 should be allowed to become at least touch dry before applying the subsequent coat. Non-ferrous metal surfaces need only thorough cleaning and degreasing, no mechanical preparation is normally required. Scotchkote Urethane Aluminium Primer MCU 125 should be applied by brush or roller to produce a smooth uniform film at a dry film thickness of 50 microns. The theoretical coverage rate at 50 microns is 11m²/litre. The product can be overcoated after a minimum of 2 hours at 20 C and provided surfaces are clean the maximum overcoating time is 7 days with itself or 16 hours with finish coats. The following times are given as a guide at different temperatures. TEMPERATURE MINIMUM MAXIMUM 10 C 4 hours 24 hours 20 C 2 hours 24 hours 30 C 1 hours 24 hours

Application of 3M Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 All prepared and patch coated/primed surfaces must be clean, dry and free from any contamination. Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 is a single component finish and should only require stirring prior to use to incorporate any slight separation. Application of Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 should not be carried out during rain, snow or when the surface is damp or covered with ice or when precipitation is likely to occur before the product has reached the touch dry stage. A stripe coat of Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 should be first applied by brush to all joints and edges of sheets and allowed to become touch dry. This stripe coat should extend approximately 25mm either side of the repair. Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 should now be applied by brush or roller at a wet film thickness of 125 microns, which equates to a dry film thickness of 75 microns on a smooth surface. The theoretical coverage at 75 microns is 8m²/litre. If the entire application is to be carried out by roller, a minimum of two coats of Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 may be required to achieve the required film thickness. The applied system will be resistant to falling rain after approximately 4 hours. If rainfall is likely, the coated surface should be protected until it is touch dry. Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 achieves full cure after 7 days at 20 C. Scotchkote Urethane Coating PU 846 can be overcoated after a minimum of 16 hours at 20 C. The following times are given as a guide for minimum overcoating at different temperatures. TEMPERATURE MINIMUM 10 C 32 hours 15 C 24 hours 20 C 16 hours 25 C 12 hours 30 C 8 hours
