2 Suspended grid ceiling system is a lightweight ceiling system available in concealed or eposed grid options. It presents an attractive pre-finished white ceiling and a range of decorative effects are possible by selecting the desired tile/board edge profile and finish. 4 T F E bgtechnical.enquiries@bpb.com Installation overview TP grid for Gyptone planks CLSM0 Shadowline Moulding is fied to the wall at 00mm centres. Reduce the Main T sections by a maimum of 0mm, in relation to the width of the room or corridor and place on the upper flange of the Shadowline Moulding. There is no requirement to install hangers to support the Main T sections. Main T sections should not be joined. Gyptone planks are located on the lower flange of the Shadowline Moulding. Corners and alcoves require specific detailing, see Construction details - and 6. TD grid for Gyptone D edge tiles CLWA0 Wall Angle is fied to the walls at 00mm centres. CLT0 Main T s are installed at 600mm centres, suspended from the structural soffit at 00mm centres along the length. Hangers should be located close to the intersection of the Main T and Cross T to facilitate demounting of the tiles from the grid. CLTD0 Cross T s are installed between Main T s at 00mm centres. Fit Gyptone D edge tiles into the grid using the metal sections on the back of the tile. Fit cut tiles net to the wall last at a maimum of mm from the wall. Place two CLC0 Wall Spring Clips per tile between the wall and the cut tile in order to push the tiles together. NB I M E S Y S T E M W A R R A N T Y Sound absorption performance is achieved through a combination of the perforated area of the product, the special acoustic tissue backing and the air space between the suspended ceiling and the structural soffit. NB All products have been tested to BS EN 0: 99 and ISO : 98. The single figure rating practical sound absorption coefficient α w is calculated in accordance with EN ISO 6: 997, suffi letters indicate where performance is limited at either low, medium or high frequencies. 8 T F E bgtechnical.enquiries@bpb.com Design Planning - key factors Ceilings should be set out from the centre to give balanced widths of tiles at the perimeter. A number of grid layouts are possible, depending on the grid selected and the choice of ceiling tile. Refer to Construction details - for alternative configurations. NB Designers and installers should take due regard of BS 890: 99: Suspended Ceilings and EN Relative humidity The grid is suitable for use in heated occupied buildings in conditions up to 90% relative humidity, Arteco Casoprano and Gypre tiles are suitable up to RH90 and Arteco Gyptone tiles and planks up to RH70. Fitures Unperforated Arteco ceiling tiles will support a point load of up to kg/tile for ma mm deflection (kg/tile for D edge tiles). This will normally allow spotlights and down-lighters etc, to be installed without the need for a support pattress. A support pattress should, however, be installed where the prevailing environmental conditions eceed ºC and RH70, or where the size of the cut-out required is greater than 0mm diameter or 0mm square. Perforated tiles should not be used to support fitures. Apertures for spotlights and down-lighters can be cut into Arteco ceiling tiles using a circular tank cutter on a power drill or using a pad saw. Table - Self-weight of tiles in proprietary and mm grid systems Grid Self-weight of tiles mm mm kg/m Cavity barriers Where cavity barriers are required, they can be formed using Gyproc FireLine or Glasroc MultiBoard screw-fied to a simple metal or timber frame. The framing should be fied to the structure to avoid undue loading of the ceiling suspension grid. The bottom of the framework should be fied to the ceiling grid. Refer to 7 - Cavity fire barriers. Fire-stopping It is necessary to provide suitable non-combustible fire-stopping material at the junction of a cavity barrier with the structural perimeter and the ceiling. Fire-stopping must also be provided around any service penetrations through the cavity barrier. Water vapour control The surface of Gypre tiles has a water vapour resistance of MNs/g. Whilst the vinyl surface can provide an effective vapour control layer, it may be necessary to complete the integrity where the boards abut metal grid sections. This is achieved by sealing with continuous beads of water vapour resistant mastic, which should be applied to the back of the metal sections prior to inserting the boards. Care should be taken to ensure that the mastic sealant does not damage the vinyl surface of the boards. The CasoLine TD grid should not be point-loaded with more than 0.kg between points of suspension. Distributed loads may be ma. kg/m of section. Built-in light fittings that are placed between grid sections are suspended separately. Gyptone plank installed in the CasoLine TIp grid must not be loaded. Light fittings and other fitures should be independently supported. If mineral wool is placed above the ceiling, the maimum self-supporting distance is reduced to 800mm. Hangers should be used for increased spans. Services The ceiling void above the suspension grid can be used to route all service requirements including ducting, pipework, electrical cables, and conduits. Ducting, ventilation units, etc, must be independently supported from the structure. Other precautions, such as cavity ventilation, may be necessary to reduce the risk of interstitial condensation. Speech clarity In order to achieve optimum speech clarity in classrooms and lecture rooms, Casoprano VOICE / NOVA (sound absorbing) and FORTE / ALTO (sound insulating) tiles can be used in combination without changing the visual appearance of the ceiling area. Refer to Casoprano product literature or contact the British Gypsum Drywall Academy Advice Centre. Maintenance Ceiling tiles can be cleaned using a damp cloth or soft brush. Most standard mild detergents can be used. Tiles other than Gypre can be re-decorated if required using a suitable emulsion paint. Perforated tiles must not be spray painted or their sound absorption performance will be impaired. Please refer to - Basic principles of system design for general guidance. 09
