No Answer Question added by: DeNise Landeis Subject = Insulation and Temperature (CLEAVER BROOKS SALES & SERVICE) Q: Good Day Clyde, Could you please advise the temperature of valve when the main steam line is shut down? Could you please advise the thickness of the insulation on the 20" line? Best regards, A: *If this refers to the existing 20 gate valve that is located outside, it will be hot (400+ F) for several hours as long as it is insulated. Given enough time, it will cool to near ambient temperature. *If this refers to the existing 18 Atwood-Morrill safety valve in the boiler room, it will be hot (400+ F) for hours, but will cool more quickly than the 20 valve because it is not insulated. Given enough time, it will cool to near ambient temperature of the boiler room. *The thickness of the insulation on the 20" line is to be 4 thick calcium silicate.
