2 Course Description Course Outline The purpose of this course is to cover the basics, techniques and practices of reducing the probability of drill stem sizing and failures in operations. To accomplish this goal, the course summarizes drill stem and gives recommended inspection procedures. Moderate practices angle well bores, extended reach and horizontal drilling are also presented. Loads simple drill stem design for vertical applied by tension, combined torsion, burst pressure, collapse pressure, compression, slip and stability forces are also presented. Design steps to reduce fatigue damage are also covered. Inspection programs and methods to reduce drill string failure are covered. Practical problems and case studies are presented and discussed to emphasize the objectives of the course and apply the materials presented in the course.
